Close to a full predicted week again & technically probably that as Sorrento did take more rinks in their shock draw to the battling Lions in a superb contest. Unsure if it was the 'knee wobbles' from the Swans or a massive lift from the Lions that impacted this game and maybe a little touch of both?! Maybe it's a deja vu of last year but this has come a Round earlier than last year wobbles when they were sitting a very comfortable 5th spot in PL, 1.5pts off a Finals spot in 4th. Unfortunately from R13 they went 1 from 6 & the rest is history. The positive for them is picking up the 2.5 rinks this Round, so even with the draw they really only lost maybe 1.5pts off a normal win & with Rossmoyne getting their own PL wobbles it actually worked out really well for the Swans & I suppose the Lions also, as they maintain the safety of mid table status. Huge game for Sorrento & Rossmoyne in R13 so we'll chat on that during the week.
WARWICK 75 (1) v WANNEROO 84 (7)
Jeffery Post 19 v Darren Turra 22
Jon Borkowski 20 v Hugh Ward 21
Lindsay Hill 23 v Steve Denny 13
Brian Ledingham 13 v Chris Buchholz 28
Hard fought contest where the Roo's showed the marginal higher class near the finish to get over the line in the last few ends. It was a very important game for both sides & Wanneroo are now within 3.5pts of the coveted 2nd place after Rossmoyne have come back to the pack. Unfortunately the Magpies have fallen back into the dreaded 7th spot with a minor margin appearing to 6th spot. Warwick certainly were close to the contest but the result now makes it 1 from 7 so they'll need to win most of the games from here to stay out of trouble.
Post had a great contest v Turra where the Turra rink just edged them by only 3 shots & allowed them to continue their strong run of winning performances. Wardy was back in the winners circle again which is a great bounce back over the last few weeks as they had a massive win against the Magies best rink in Borkowski which surely set them up nicely for the Agg. Hill pulled the Agg back Warwick's way with a big 10 shot win over Denny which left the final game as the decider. Ledingham drew a tough draw to get Buchholz where they learned first hand how strong that rink can be especially when they can get such strong front end pressure on all day, as they pulled away early to win by 15shots & in doing so secured a massive 7 pts. The away win now puts Wanneroo is a strong position in 4th but it's not about the position rather than the games they have left & on the live ladder they have no jumped to finish a potential 2nd spot, IF they can maintain form.
Result: Wanneroo 7 - 1
Prediction: Wanneroo 6 - 2
KARDINYA 97 (8) v MORLEY 61 (0)
Graeme Fewings 24 v Raymond (Tom) Dawson 19
Ross Knapp 24 v Lindsay Sanders 18
Michael Yates 24 v Wayne Mitchell 11
Craig Stokes 25 v Wayne Barker 13
The Kats had a relatively easy day out against the Mavericks as they cruised to the full 8 points & 36 shots. They didn't break the 100 mark which must be some consolation for Morley. Kats do jump into 5th now but it’s probably a stretch to mention possible Finals as they would need a incredible run to chase down any of the Top 4.
Fewings v Dawson went Fewings way by 5 shots but the Mavericks side were playing quite well over the last few weeks so I'm sure they'll bounce back. Knapp needed a win & duly got one against Sanders to break that 3 on the trot as they won by 6 shots. Yates had Mitchell & it was all Kats for most of the day as they stretched out their legs in the 2nd half to win by 13 shots. Stokes had a similar performance against Barker where they won pretty easy by 12 shots.
Great performance by the Kats as they not only got the full 8 points but also gave themselves a critical boost in percentage & who knows how important that might be in 6 Rounds.
Result: Kardinya 8 - 0
Prediction: Kardinya 8 - 0
SORRENTO 70 (4.5) v BASSENDEAN 70 (3.5)
Murray Hulbert 18 v Eugene O'Sullivan 13
Christopher Lander 12 v Rodney Revell 18
Rhett Butler 18 v Jovan Krstic 18
Shane Loftus 22 v Alfred Dinnison 21
What a cracking game & very tight all over the 4 rinks in one of the lowest scoring games of the season. Unsure when Sorrento scored 70 shots or less but it certainly wasn't this season, tight game already. Nobody gave the Basso much hope but they produced a great fight to grab 1.5 rinks & a share of the Agg. It might be only 1.5pts more than expected but it's more about the confidence of grabbing those points while playing away to the top team that will bring more value going forward. Yes there was a number of changes for the Swans with some outs but either way Basso gave them a hell of a scare.
Hulbert stepped up for Rixom & won by 5 shots against O'Sullivan. While Rocket produced the magic that was there last year to stun the once unbeatable rink in Landers to confine them to no wins from 2 games in a row when they were looking pretty for a 18 straight run. Butler v Krstic was a great game where both skippers are in fine touch. Krstic again got supported wel by the front end to keep them in the game to grab a huge 18-18 draw to share the biscuits. Loftus v Dinnison went to the absolute wire & last bowl to as Loftus's side edged them by the minimum margin 22-21.
High level of bowls across all rinks so credit to both sides in a superb game.
Adrian Durrant 24 v Rawley Lang 18
Denis Bandy 16 v Lee Jervies 16
Steve Kelly 25 v Allan Petchell 16
Ryan Havercroft 21 v Edward Gollan 12
What huge result for the Millers in taking the River Rats & very nearly got the full 8 points which would of been huge against the 2nd placed side. South Perth desperately need the points & even 6pts would of been great so anything else is a bonus.
The Millers started positively across all rinks & it started with Durrant where he had Lang under control for most of the day as his side pushed out to win by 6 shots. Durrant seems to be picking up where he left off last year & got well supported by Owen & Santostefano.
Bandy came back this week after a week off, as they took on Jervies in a two sided contest where the Millers were well up with 3-4 ends to go only to drop 8 shots over those ends as Jervies grabbed a valuable half a point for the River Rats. Kelly chipped in another good week with some strong support on the front end from Moretti/Negus as they jumped out early & maintained a healthy gap to win by 9 shots. Havercroft's rink created good back to back wins & what was more impressive this week was that it occurred at the expensive of the impressive Gollan rink which had only lost 1 game all season up this point.
Unfortunately for South Perth we had already predicted this result which was already factored into their survival chances so no real change in the live ladder although they are now expected to finish on 59 points & Cockburn on 58pts so we are surely in for an absolute nail biter for that 8th/9th position. I have no doubt this is going down to about 4.50pm on 28 March 2020!!
Result: South Perth 7.5 - 0.5
Prediction: South Perth 5 - 3
OSBORNE PARK 89 (6) v COCKBURN 76 (2)
John Carter 16 v Marin Sokol 17
Michael Dewson 23 v Marko Krajancic 11
Mark Pasalich 18 v Josip (Joe) Marevich 28
Fernando Di Giuseppe 32 v William TePania 20
Another big game for all 3 teams involved & that's the 2 above & Warnbro, who have a significant vested interest in everything the Saints do over the next 6 Rounds. Unfortunately for Cockburn that is only 1 win from 11 games which is never going to work out well for any team. Osborne Park didn't want to lose 3 on the trot so grabbing a narrow win was important to maintaining the Top 4 status & now are only 1pt behind Rossmoyne in 2nd.
Carter had a tough game against Sokol who has been playing very well since his promotion to skippering as Sokol won by the minimum 1 shot to grab a valuable point. Dewson had Krajancic covered for most of the day, as they won by 12 shots. Pasalich's debut as skipper didn't go as planned & he could of had another 6 Pasalich to the 3 already in the rink & it would still be hard to beat Marevich who's running hot over the last few weeks. Joe's side lost the corresponding fixture in R3 & they made sure of this one early as they won by 10 shots to give the Roosters a chance of grabbing this one late. Unfortunately a wounded DiGiuseppe side was in no mood to be generous this week as they won by 12 shots against one of the key rinks for the Rosters. DiGiuseppe's side had Srhoy by the exact same 32-20 score in R3 so clearly they match up well against Cockburn. And this rink was probably the difference in the Agg.
Result: Osborne Park 6 - 2
Prediction: Osborne Park 6 - 2
