Well another couple of surprises in round 3. Despite early thoughts it seems that the Blue North completion is very open with what appears to be 7 evenly matched teams, both Mundaring, as yet undefeated and Kalamunda exceeding expectations. That Quinns is on top and undefeated is as expected and that Wanneroo and Stirling are bottom two is no surprise.
NORTH BEACH 67 (2) v KALAMUNDA 70 (6)
Peter Augustson 20 v Arthur Bartlett 14
Alan Schrauf 16 v Peter Townsend 9
Richard Hunter 17 v Rodney Cooper 26
Gary Gregson 14 v Wayne Olive 21
A big performance from Kalamunda to defeat North Beach away, in no way did I think this was possible. Kalamunda lost a couple of good players from last year while North Beach were strengthened by gains. I believed that the Beach boys would be top three prospects and push to regain 1 White status, they have not played that way this year. Kalamunda would be delighted where they are, they have played well.
MT LAWLEY 86 (8) v WANNEROO 68 (0)
Paul Sinden 24 v Martin Nievelstein 16
Laurence Kelly 18 v Graham White 15
Mark Masel 22 v Kingsley Toster 16
Anthony Einfeld 22 v Rod Beazley 21
You can do more than win aggregate with 8 points, congratulations Mt Lawley. Wanneroo were competitive without any blow out rinks but no points. The Masel rink remain undefeated and a good effort to be third on the rink table with a nice plus 31 shots after 3 games while the Einfield rink won by the narrowest margin to also remain undefeated. A big challenge next week for the Lawley boys, away from home to the strong Yokine side, a fiercely competitive encounter is expected.
MUNDARING 95 (6) v YOKINE 82 (2)
Lindsay Pickles 17 v Anthony Kay 21
John Doncon 34 v Trevor McGillivray 16
Rex Cox 19 v Bradley Morrison 21
Geoffrey Bear 25 v Shane Shaw 24
They came they saw and they were conquered. A visit to Mundaring is a tough proposition by I am sure that Yokine were expecting a somewhat different outcome. An aggregate winning 16 shot victory by the Doncon rink, which sits second on table with plus 38 after 3 wins, and modest victories by the Pickles and Bear rinks were good enough for 7 points, I am sure Mundaring were happy with that. 8 points would have been nice, a 2 shot win by the Morrison rink averted that.
STIRLING 68 (1) v QUINNS ROCKS 84 (7)
Mane (Mick) Marovic 18 v Martin Hinchcliffe 19
Paul Kelly 14 v John Berecz 28
Sonny Franich 13 v Brian Axford 20
Nick Yaksich 23 v Barry Crawford 17
The machine rolls on with Quinns comfortable winners against a Stirling side that fought hard and never gave up but were outclassed by a top quality Quinns side that would be more than competitive in 1 White. Good skippers, the Berez ring top of the table with a massive plus 45 after 3 games supported by quality players in all positions, Quinns is a really good side that all will find very difficult to beat this year.
DOUBLEVIEW 84 (7) v SWAN 78 (1)
Gary Nelson 22 v Ian Cornthwaite 19
Guy Herriot 16 v Phillip Park 26
Michael Mckeague 25 v David Park 15
Edward Johnson 21 v Alan Southern 18
A tight contest with the Phil Park rink playing very well to win by 10 giving Swan a chance at aggregate. It wasn't to be, the undefeated Nelson rink won again,as usual in a close contest, three wins this year but only plus 11 says they are good in the contest. The other winning rinks were McKeague's by 10 and Johnson's by 3 gave Doubleview 7 points and fourth position on the ladder. A good position to be in after having had tough opponents over the last two weeks.
