Another very interesting round and some excellent performances by the dominant & inform teams. Rossmoyne did what was expected & won well, nearly grabbing all 8. Sorrento were simply magic over at Basso, holding the Lions to their lowest in a long time and Wanneroo have shut down that initial debate between themselves & Warwick in style. The Top 4 is starting to see the cream rise with some gaps starting to appear elsewhere.
Of the 4 teams that came up it might seem that Rossmoyne have ripped up their 'return' ticket to 1 Blue & are hell bent on making a right good go at finals & maybe life in PL. The other 3 sides are starting to reassess the glory, finals & all that goes with chasing the top, as the feeling of survival starts to creep in even though it's only very early in the season.

ROSSMOYNE 93 (7) v SOUTH PERTH 69 (1)
 Raymond Halse 22 v Bill Roelofs  23
 Edward Gollan 28 v Denis Bandy  17
 Daniel Green 19 v Steve Kelly  18
 Allan Petchell 24 v Ryan Havercroft  11

The River Rats will be happy to grab 7 here. Reports were they weren't travelling as comfortable in the first half of the game but powered home to run over the top of South Perth to grab a valuable 7 at home & stay a loft of the table by 0.5pt & have still only dropped 2 games over 3 Rounds which is very impressive.
South Perth probably wish the start of this season was similar to last year when the went untouched for the first 4 Rounds, dropping only 1 rink across 4 Rounds but the stakes are higher & teams tougher here & they are struggling to adjust.
In saying that, the word as it was alot closer than the final score suggests & maybe South Perth are thinking they could of got more out of this round against a top team. That was evident in Halse v Roelofs, where Roelofs had Halse on the ropes hammering out a 21-2 lead & put the Millers in prime position for the upset. However in an incredible turn of ends Halse's rink pulled it back to all square on the last bowl with Roelofs putting in 1 to reduce the damage & Roelofs prevented the unthinkable to grab a valuable point.
Gollan v Bandy was what we wanted & it was thankfully what we got in a superb game where Gollan cruised out early & Bandy pulled him right back. Although the reports seem to indicate that the scoring got mixed up here with the Kelly rink but we could be wrong. Gollan had just enough fire power to push past a strong Bandy rink by 11 shots & give the Rats a nice buffer for the Agg.
Green had a good Kelly who dropped down from PL & brought that form for much of the day. This game was very hard fought with scoring locked even for most of the day. All square on the last but Green's side just edged Kelly's to score 1 & take the point.
Petchell had Havercroft in the last game & it was another good hard game for most of the day. South Perth were up by 1 on the turn but Petchell just had the shots all day including a fair bit of luck which made the difference. Millers dropped a 6 on the last chasing a score to win but probably wouldn't mind playing this one again. Petchell played a huge influence & that also show on the skippers ladder at the moment.
With the Millers losing by about the same as Morley here last week it makes for a balanced game in R5 for the bottom dwellers which could determine who sits there until at least Xmas. Another great win for Rossmoyne & the dream moves on to R5.
Result: Rossmoyne 7 - 1
Prediction: Rossmoyne 7 - 1

BASSENDEAN 58 (0.5) v SORRENTO 91 (7.5)
 Jovan Krstic 18 v Shane Loftus  18
 Rodney Revell 14 v Christopher Lander  25
 Aaron Smith 10 v Rhett Butler  26
 Eugene O'Sullivan 16 v Greg Taylor  22

Well that solves that debate on whether top teams can head to Basso & win?!! What a massive performance by Sorrento, absolutely dominant across all rinks in a huge win. I'm sure Sorrento would of told themselves, if they wanted back in PL they needed to put away these sides & boy of boy did they do that in style.
There was merit in thinking they would travel there with confidence knowing that last year they only lost by 9 shots against Basso PL side & even beat them on their home track by 10 shots so why would they fear Basso's 2 nd side. And it seemed to turn out something like that.
Krstic held Loftus to the draw (18-18) which gave them that 0.5pt to salvage something from the Round. Revell v Lander was touted as the matchup of the Round but Lander put that away with some ease, running for an 11 shot win against a very good Revell side. Smith was staring down the barrel of 0-3 start to the skippering role & drawing Butler probably didn't help the confidence starting this game. Butler's side seemed comfortable chipping away to cruise to a 16 shot win & give Sorrento a big boost looking for the Agg. The final game of O'Sullivan v Taylor was even for most of the day but Taylor just pulled away late on the grab another big point away.
Basso have Ossie & Kardinya away & Warwick at home so losing 2 at home heading into the next 3 rounds will make life difficult but they'll regroup. Sorrento are building nicely, while continuing to knock down the mid division teams with ease. Next week will be an absolute humdinger, can't wait.
Result: Sorrento 7.5 - 0.5
Prediction: Sorrento 6 - 2

COCKBURN 78 (1.5) v OSBORNE PARK 88 (6.5)
 Marko Krajancic 21 v Tod Weir  21
 William TePania 22 v Michael Dewson  16
Josip (Joe) Marevich 15 v Jason Thorn  19
Steve Srhoy 20 v Fernando Di Giuseppe  32

I maybe should of went with my gut on this one, as that's how it played out with Ossie Park just edging the Roosters to break that impeccable home record spanning many many games. Ossie Park are becoming a bit of a giant slayer on the road which is very impressive. And won't they need it the next time they play away at Rossmoyne.
Krajancic v Weir was the drawn game at 21-21, which got Ossie Park off to a solid start. TePania continued his side's solid form by taking Dewson by 6 to give Cockburn a chance of the Agg. Marevich v Thorn probably was the matchup of the day & Thorn delivered in spades late on the drag his side over the line in a very strong performance by 4 shots.
The best was left to the final game where Srhoy struggled badly against DiGiuseppe who dominated from early on to power to a 12 shot victory & hand Ossie Pk the Agg. Another big 6.5pts away for Ossie Pk & another few home wins & they'll be sitting nicely on the turn for home after Xmas.
Result: Osborne Park 7.5 - 0.5
Prediction: Cockburn 6 - 2

WANNEROO 88 (7) v WARWICK 68 (1)
 Neville Costello 20 v Jon Borkowski  14
 Hugh Ward 28 v Jeffery Post  19
 Chris Buchholz 26 v Brian Ledingham  11
 Darren Turra 14 v Geoffrey Hinge  24

The Roo's needed some Final types bowls for this game & they managed to get a number of them back to back against a strong & well balanced Warwick side who were throwing everything they had at Wanneroo.
Costello got off to a flyer & touched out Borkowski for a very important win the get the Roo's rolling & that's against a rink that hadn't lost a game yet.
Ward followed that with a huge 9 shot win over Post. Not that 9 shots was huge but the context of the Agg & beating the top skipper/rink, yes it was a big win.
Buchholz v Ledingham was another big win to Wanneroo with Buchholz rink putting 15 shots on Ledingham & probably tying up the Agg in the process. The shining light for Warwick was the Hinge rink with a never say die attitude to come over the top of a good Turra rink by 10 shots. That might of been the only point of the day but valuable all the same.
Wanneroo are travelling very well at the moment & have 3 of an easier variety of games to come, so I'm expecting them to be Top 2 come R7. Warwick will take some comfort from this loss & 1 point but they have Cockburn at home next week so I'm sure they'll make the most of that.
Result: Wanneroo 7 - 1
Prediction: Wanneroo 6 - 2

MORLEY 95 (2) v KARDINYA 96 (6)
 Wayne Mitchell 36 v Craig Stokes  16
 Jeremy Thomas 13 v Graeme Fewings  29
 Lindsay Sanders 28 v Ross Knapp  27
 Gavin Grieve 18 v Michael Yates  24

It's not hard to not feel for Morley after this bitter defeat. They had the Agg within grasp but it slipped through the fingers on the very last end. A great hard fought win for the Kats but more pressure now on Morley to get something on the board & quickly.
Mitchell led Stokes on a merry dance to drive Morley into a huge early lead with a big 20 shot win with everyone playing very well across the rink. Thomas got a similar touch up from a solid Fewings effort to balance the books somewhat to recover 16 of those shots. Sanders v Knapp was a superb game by all accounts & high scoring at 28-27 with Sanders touching out a very good Knapp side by 1 to get Morley another critical point.
Last up was Grieve v Yates and it tipped slightly towards Yates for a 6 shot win and a heart breaking 1 shot overall victory to the Kats. Both teams needed the win & it showed as both teams fought right to the end. Unlucky for Morley but they have another chance at home next week where they'll probably fancy another big performance.
Result: Kardinya 6 - 2
Prediction: Kardinya 7 - 1
