The Christmas break has come, One blue north continues to be unpredictable and close for those who wish to earn promotion. Yokine is top of the ladder half a point clear of Swan with some space to Quinns who are seven points behind Yokine. Mt Lawley and Mundaring make up the top five, virtually an aggregate clear of Doubleview, who have not been good over the past two weeks, Kalamunda and the improving North Beach. Wanneroo and Stirling are bottom two but both have looked better as the year has gone on.
MUNDARING 0 (4) v MT LAWLEY 0 (4)
John Doncon 0 v Mark Masel 0
Rex Cox 0 v Mick Palumbo 0
Lindsay Pickles 0 v Laurence Kelly 0
Geoffrey Bear 0 v Anthony Einfeld 0
One of the few games abandoned due to heat. Mt Lawley would be happy with the 4 points, Mundaring are very hard to beat at home. Both sides are travelling well and while they may finish just off the pace relegation is not probable for either.
DOUBLEVIEW 71 (1) v NORTH BEACH 92 (7)
Michael Mckeague 24 v Alan Schrauf 14
Edward Johnson 14 v Steven Wattleworth 23
Guy Herriot 16 v Peter Augustson 27
Gary Nelson 17 v Richard Aitken 28
The names in the Doubleview side are good but they are not playing that way. The anticipated improvement has come from North Beach but few would have expected them to beat Doubleview away and certainly not gaining 7 points and winning by 21 shots. Doubleview have lost three in a row, including two home games, if they continue their run of poor form One Blue status could be in doubt. North Beach, after two wins on the trot will be looking to rise out of the promotional challenge position, they have the players, the form is good, they may get there.
STIRLING 70 (2) v YOKINE 83 (6)
Sonny Franich 12 v Shane Shaw 29
Mane (Mick) Marovic 23 v Jeffrey West 9
Nick Yaksich 21 v Trevor McGillivray 19
Unplayed 14 v Anthony Kay 26
Stirling improved form, assisted by player gains, has continued and were competitive against the strong Yokine side. Two rinks that struggled and were beaten by double digits made aggregate all but impossible. Stirling sit bottom, they will have hopes of rising and if they continue to improve it may be possible but they will need other sides to fall away. Yokine on top and in current form could stay there, continue to win and One White is all theirs next year.
SWAN 83 (7) v WANNEROO 71 (1)
Alan Southern 22 v Martin Nievelstein 13
David Park 15 v Pieter Geus 14
Phillip Park 23 v Rod Beazley 18
Ian Cornthwaite 23 v John Miller 26
Wanneroo as usual were competitive with narrow rink losses the order of the day. Swan now have won five in a row to be in a strong position to challenge Yokine for top of the ladder, although last season they did fall away badly after the break. They will want to maintain the momentum, the players are good quality and experienced and One White would not be beyond their ability. Wanneroo appear to be a bottom two side, they compete well but just lack that little bit of quality to win aggregates.
QUINNS ROCKS 69 (5) v KALAMUNDA 61 (3)
Barry Crawford 15 v Dwayne Wooltorton 16
John Berecz 12 v Wayne Olive 15
Martin Hinchcliffe 14 v Arthur Bartlett 23
Christopher Parr 28 v Rodney Cooper 7
After three weeks Quinns were top of the table and looking to dominate Blue North. Three losses in a row and just one rink win at home against Kalamunda, though winning aggregate with a 21 shot win by the Parr rink, one does not have confidence in Quinns right now. If they can regroup and discover early season form they will probably play finals but it is arguable that they can top the ladder. Kalamunda have been steady all year, not likely to challenge for finals and more likely to play in a promotional challenge where they successfully defended their Blue North status last year.
