Well the last games before Xmas have been played in very hot conditions across Perth, but I believe that Bowls WA made the right call in not abandoning Saturday’s fixtures.
Four of the games went as predicted by the Southern Star, with the other clash at Spearwood, won by the Leeming Lions in a tight, hard fought contest.
With the recent hot weather, I believe most bowlers will be keen for a break though, me included.
ARMADALE 49 (0) v SAFETY BAY 100 (8)
Chadd Hunt 13 v Paul Beaumont 23
Brian Davis 11 v Chris Carruthers 19
Blair Griffiths 14 v Christopher Owen 29
Brandon Heta 11 v Ron Hall 29
The Bay winning as predicted out at Armadale, but the margin of fifty one shots and the eight points tell us that the visitors were extremely dominant, to say the least.
All four rinks were won very comfortably by the the Bay, with Ron Hall and his team very dominant against the Heta foursome, seventeen shots the margin at the finish.
Hall was ably assisted by his very good lead in Steve McBriar, second Steve Hide, and reliable third in Harry Wilson.
The remaining Bay sides all had wins by eight, ten and fifteen shots.
HILTON PARK 97 (7) v FREMANTLE 68 (1)
Craig Standley 16 v Mark Gill 27
Travis Simpson 32 v Shaun McCormack 9
Robert Hunter 26 v Peter Wachmer 17
Gary Dodd 23 v Wayne Heldt 15
The Hawks flying high at Hilton, gaining a twenty nine shot win, and grabbing seven shots into the bargain.
My mate at Hilton tells me that the rink of Skip, Travis Simpson, was extremely well served by the Newton boys, who apparently were very dominant throughout.
He also whispered to me that young Daniel Newton is a walk up start for a Premier League position, but that Hilton are keen to keep him naturally.
The Simpson four thrashed the McCormack four by some twenty three shots, a match winning effort.
The rink skipped by Mark Gill were able to achieve one point for the visiting Mariners , with a solid eleven shot win over the Standley four.
VICTORIA PARK CARLISLE 72 (1) v THORNLIE 93 (7)
Peter Freund 17 v Norman Holden 22
David Florance 19 v Gary Beckwith 33
Michael Simms 17 v Glyn Vaughan 23
Jonathan Jermalinski 19 v Glenn Sewell 15
The Ravens carrying on their winning ways, with a solid twenty one shot victory over the Reds at Vic Park, where they tell me it was very hot indeed.
Gary Beckwith having another resounding win, this time over the Florance rink.
I believe that Riggio, Rewell and third Murray White were very dominant in the fourteen shot victory. Holden and Vaughan having solid victories for the Ravens, while young Jon Jermalinski in his first game as skip for the Reds, winning by four over Sewell.
The Reds failing again, but not too far away I guess.
GOSNELLS 84 (6) v MANNING 59 (2)
Brett Holland 28 v Stephen Hughes 13
Maurice Crabb 15 v Alan Pryce 16
Frank Carbone 17 v Shane Adams 20
Grant Nicol 24 v Graham O'Brien 10
The Kookaburras having the last laugh over the Eagles out at their very hot venue in Gosnells. Some say it was too hot out their, and shouldn’t have been played.
The very reliable rink of Rickard, Tulett, Hickinbotham and skip Brett Holland giving the normally good Steve Hughes four, a right old towelling by some fifteen shots.
The General also in a good vein of form beating Obrien for the other point for the victors.
Pryce and Adams grabbing two valuable points for the wounded Eagles.
SPEARWOOD 70 (2) v LEEMING 74 (6)
Ivan Unkovich 19 v Alexander Anderson 16
Ken Nadilo 12 v Karl Vandersluys 17
Vled Pesich 24 v Gary Ford 17
Ivan Perica 15 v James Newton 24
In the match of the day at Spearwood, the visitors had a morale boosting victory over the feisty Spearwood boys by only four shots.
I believe that this clash had everything that a game of bowls can produce, deft draw shots, solid driving, and a fair bit of gamesmanship to boot.
The match wining rink for the Lions was that of Newton, Dobie, Hickey and Andersson, who beat the Ivan Perica four by nine shots.
And of course, Karl Vandersluys and his team, won as usual, beating Ken Nadilo by five shots.
Unkovich and Pesich skipping their rinks well, to gain two valuable points for the home side.
