What a round we had in R8 – Mundaring beat Mt Lawley in a thriller in the Hiller, Yokine blasted their way to the top of the ladder with a win over Morley grabbing the full pot of points on offer. Joondalup disposed of Swan very easily and even easier than that was North Beach’s massive win over Doubleview who I’m sure would be hurting after a loss like that. Sorrento came good as we suspected they would. 4 out of 5 in the tips so not a bad effort and should have been 5/5 if not for a silly mistake in tipping two boilovers in the one round, it just never happens, home teams are the way to go this season in one blue.
Sorrento 103 (7) v Manning 2 57 (1)
Ronald Rogers 21 v Brett Adams 19
Lance Martin 30 v Allan Taylor 10
Timothy Murray 17 v Brian Jeppesen 19
Rick Munt 35 v Phil Gillespie 9
I’m glad I stuck with them in this game they didn’t quite get the full bucket of points but went very close to it. Micky Martin and the Rick Munt rinks were devasting with both of them the difference in the game. A massive 46 shots in those two rinks alone really put the result beyond doubt for The Swans. The other two rinks squared off with other for a net 0 result so it was a 46-shot win to Sorrento and they never really got out of second gear. Manning did well in the end to take away 1 ag point courtesy of the Brian Jeppesen rink. Sorrento grab 4th position and a potential finals berth with that win.
TIP: Sorrento 8-0
RESULT: Sorrento 7-1
Mundaring 80 (7) v Mt Lawley 79 (1)
Rex Cox 22 v Anthony Einfeld 18
Geoffrey Bear 13 v Corey Bessant 25
Lindsay Pickles 21 v Mark Masel 17
John Doncon 24 v Andrew Jones 19
I called this one game of the round, called Inspector Cox to be a major part of the win and called it a very close match. Correct on every aspect of this match. What a win by the Red Tails 1 shot winners and 7 points thank you very much. It just goes to show that if you don’t turn up on the day ladder positions mean nothing. A very bitter pill to swallow for Mt Lawley who have just come off the pace a little over the last few weeks. Cory Bessant’s rink nearly got the job done for Mt Lawley but fell agonisingly short. The Rex Cox, Lindsay Pickles & John Doncon rinks take a bow! What a great team effort to hold on and get the win for your club. Well done gents.
TIP: Mundaring 6-2
RESULT: Mundaring 7-1
North Beach 114 (8) v Doubleview 36 (0)
John Bartorillo 29 v Bradley Pearce 3
Richard Aitken 32 v Edward Johnson 12
Lee Mitten 32 v Ben Willesee 7
John Carlsen 21 v Brandon Heta 14
I was concerned going into this match but not in my wildest dreams would I have predicted this score line. Hold your heads high View Boys it’s happened to plenty before you and will happen to plenty after you so put that one well and truly behind you. Not going to say very much at all about this match as it has no reflection or bearing on the winners and the losers other than what I would call a fair advantage to any North beach side that gets to practice on that green. Perhaps North Beach will waive the $10 green fee for sides that are playing there so they can get down and have a practice on it. Food for thought for future games.
TIP: North Beach 8-0
RESULT: North Beach 8-0
Joondalup 78 (7) v Swan 59 (1)
Wesley Neilson 17 v Alan Southern 16
Ben Leggett 23 v Daniel Wood 9
Jimmy Buchanan 27 v Tony Natalotto 13
Patrick Daley 11 v Ian Cornthwaite 21
I got this one horribly wrong my hunch radar was way off the mark thinking Swans could upset Joondalup away from home and it cost me a perfect round of tips! A very good win to the young guns here who were 19 shot winners thanks to the Ben Leggett & Jimmy Buchanan rinks taking care of business by the tune 28 shots over the Woods & Natalotto rinks. Young Wes had a great game and got over the line by one shot to make it 7 points to Joondalup. Swan managed to grab 1 ag point courtesy of Ian Cornthwaites rink so didn’t walk away totally empty handed. The win by the young guns keeps their finals aspirations alive and the loss keeps Swan anchored in the spot no one wants to be in.
Tip: Swan 6-2
RESULT: Joondalup 7-1
Yokine 80 (8) v Morley 67 (0)
Wayne Coffey 18 v Mark West 17
Anthony Kay 21 v Keith Nazareth 18
Bradley Morrison 19 v Wayne Mitchell 13
Trevor McGillivray 22 v Mark Callcott 19
What a win by Yokine they are proving to all they are indeed the real deal with a full bag of points and a sold win over a very good Morley side. Tony Kay remains the one blue leading skip and is fact unbeaten after 8 rounds. The doggies shot to the top of the ladder thanks in part to Mundaring’s win over my Mounters but in reality it has been Yokine’s last 6 weeks that have netted then 5 wins and in the game they lost they still managed 2.5 pts which is the real reason they sit on top of the one blue division .Morley have been good this year but still find themselves in that awful 8th spot that will require some work to get out of if they want to avoid the paly off’s to stay in one blue. Well done to the Doggies who are definitely looking the goods in season 20/21.
TIP: Yokine 6-2
RESULT: Yokine 8-0
