(Butch Dinnison 20 - Brody Dix 22) (Grant Stokes 37 - Patrick Daley 15) (John Holman 20 - Daniel Hartzer 20) (Neil Strachan 12 - Callum Arnold 30)
The Rose Brigade rolled into the Lions Den looking to lock down a Top 3 spot and finally prove they can travel without wilting in the heat. Bassendean, meanwhile, knew this was a must-win to keep their noses above the playoff danger zone.
Hartzer and Holman went toe-to-toe and couldn’t be split, Butch copped a two-shot haircut from Dix, and Arnold continued his purple patch with a brutal 18-shot mauling of Strachan. Surely that’s enough, right?
Enter Grant “The Main Man” Stokes.
Like a wolf protecting his flock, Stoker bit, scratched and mauled Daley for a 22-shot demolition to steal the aggregate and send the Rose Brigade home wilting once again after another failed road trip. Yanchep were so close to the elusive away win, and Stoker was almost certainly treated to a few celebratory pints for his heroics.
Ellenbrook 96 (7) vs Quinns Rocks 61 (1)
(Aaron Cole 24 - Hugh Ward 9) (Josef Rollnik 18 - Shane Smith 23) (Michael L Ryan 28 - Derek Richmond 12) (Robert Ball 26 - Steve ONeill 17)
The Brook Boys did it again in the Valley, knocking off yet another travelling side to keep their survival hopes well and truly alive.
Cole was too hot to handle with a 15-shot heater over Ward, Derek “The Mouth” got a proper schooling from Ryan, and Robbie Ball rolled back the years to knock over O’Neill by 9. Rumblin’, Stumblin’, Bumblin’ Smith saved Quinns from a donut on the bus ride home with a handy point over Rollnik.
A missed opportunity for Quinns to break free of the mid-table traffic jam, while Ellenbrook close the gap on 6th and keep the dream alive.
Morley 82 (7) vs Mount Lawley 70 (1)
(Andrew Elmer 21 - Michael Erceg 17) (Christopher Bell 24 - Laurence Kelly 11) (Ian Eichfuss 12 - Andrew Jones 24) (Victor Orchard 25 - Enda Munnelly 18)
The Mounters have stumbled on the road again — a familiar theme this season. Why is everyone getting so homesick?
Shirts Elmer beat his old mate Erceg by 4, Orchard juiced Munnelley for all he was worth with a 7-shot win, and Bell chimed in with a 13-shot special over Kelly to keep him quiet… at least until after the game. Side note: Kelly once played off 2 in golf — in the new system he’d be +1.
AJ looked sharp, picking up a valuable away point with a double-digit win over Eichfuss.
Like Ellenbrook, Morley cling to survival hopes, while the Mounters stay inside the Top 4 — lucky the rest of the comp travels about as well as a broken suitcase.
Wanneroo 79 (6.5) vs Cambridge 68 (1.5)
(David Anderson 23 - Stephen Buckley 24) (Derek Griffin 18 - Garry Hawkes 11) (Kingsley Toster 17 - David Foulsham 17) (Pieter Geus 21 - Peter Easom 16)
This one was tighter than expected, with Cambridge grabbing 1.5 valuable away points from a tough venue.
Griffin got the pots with a 7-shot win over Hawkes, Geus knocked over Easom by 5, Toster and Foulsham (new character unlocked) couldn’t be split, and Bucks pinched Anderson by 1 to make sure they didn’t leave empty-handed.
Cambridge remain anchored to the bottom and will need a miracle — especially with Morley and Ellenbrook picking up wins this week. Wanneroo sit nicely in 2nd and are fortunate the teams around them travel worse than a ham and mayo sandwich.
Warwick 108 (8) vs Sorrento 53 (0)
(Geoffrey Hinge 25 - Brad Wicks 12) (Glenn Yabuka 25 - Ian Linford 12) (Raymond Loran 21 - Ronald Rogers 17) (Sean Wright 37 - Richard Bone 12)
Poor Sorrento. This season is shaping up like a horror movie, and the changes up top look to have taken their toll. They’re dropping faster than kegs on a Saturday night and now sit just three points above 9th.
Top skip Wright put on a clinic with a 25-shot demolition of Bone, Hinge and Yabbie both chimed in with 13-shot wins over Linford and Rogers, and Loran beat Rogers by 4.
Warwick sit pretty on top of the ladder and have looked the most consistent side all year.
The big question — who can catch them?
