(Daniel Brown 26 - Aaron Gale 15) (Eddie Gollan 14 - Garry Knight 15) (Kevin McKay 19 - Ross Knapp 14) (Nicholas Lewis 18 - Hugo Vriezen 15)
It was billed as the heavyweight clash of the season but it perhaps did not live up to expectations with Armadale walking away with an 18 shot win and 7 valuable points. Star skipper Daniel Brown was the big winner of the day with an 11 shot win over Aaron Gale and it was rumoured that after the game, Brown ventured to his vehicle to get a copy of an old cassette featuring Queen and “We are the Champions” and started to play this post match inside the clubrooms. Probably fair enough as just who will be able to catch them now. Next week they travel away to Dalkeith and there was talk post match that some players may be rested given the lengthy travel involved. Kardinya back at home to take on bottom placed Gosnells.
Cockburn 67 (2) vs Safety Bay 81 (6)
(Denis Bandy 21 - Raymond Kennedy 12) (Derek Gibson 6 - Steven Adams 27) (John Wray 27 - Raymond Clark 19) (Paul Brotherston 13 - Ron Hall 23)
Another great win for Safety Bay away from home as they continue to push higher on the ladder. Now into 4th place and they have Rockingham in their sights as they aim towards a top 3 position on the ladder come the end of the season. A 21 shot win from Steven Adams over Derek Gibson and a 10 shot win from the Hall rink allowed the Bay to get home pretty comfortably in the end. The rinks of Wray and Bandy help to secure 2 important points for Cockburn however they would be disappointed to lose this one at home. Next week Cockburn will be looking to bounce back against Rossmoyne whilst the Bay return home to tackle 3rd placed Rockingham in what could be a season defining clash for both teams.
Gosnells 73 (3) vs Rossmoyne 73 (5)
(Kelvin Pearce 21 - Anthony Churcher 11) (Mark Beauchamp 14 - Raymond Halse 19) (Michael Rickard 22 - Wayne Heldt 23) (Rue Bishop 16 - Craig Edson 20)
Speaking of nailbiters they don’t get much closer than this one with scores locked together when the final siren sounded. Not sure how both sides would feel about the draw but I think Rossmoyne walking away with 5 points in an away fixture with 3 rink wins would be very pleased. I can visualise Mayor Lang getting back to the club, putting his feet up on the table and ordering a nice bottle of Champagne. For Gosnells it was the Kelvin Pearce rink that kept them in the match and were to secure their only rink win with a 10 shot win over Anthony Churcher. Rossmoyne back at home next week and they will be eyeing off a win over Cockburn whilst Gosnells face a difficult away fixture at Gosnells.
South Perth 77 (5.5) vs Dalkeith Nedlands 76 (2.5)
(John Carter 26 - Michael Yates 15) (Neale Griffin 18 - Jesse Brown 21) (Steve Kelly 19 - Martin Saunders 19) (Wayne Bezant 14 - Darren Redeckis 21)
A nailbiter this one with South Perth scrapping a 1 shot win over Dalkeith at home on Saturday. It was the Carter rink that helped carry the aggregate with a solid 11 shot win over Michael Yates. All other rinks ended up with pretty tight scorelines but despite a valiant performance Dalkeith slump to 9th place on the ladder. And it doesn’t get any easier for them next week when they return home to take on top of the table, Armadale. South Perth would be relieved to get this one behind them and have another great opportunity at home next week when they tackle Willetton.
Willetton 103 (7.5) vs Rockingham 60 (0.5)
(Alan Walters 37 - Pietro Villa 14) (Cameron Girvan 25 - Mark Devenny 12) (Gavin Dodge 24 - Zac Boddy 17) (Justin Wright 17 - Bradley Cole 17)
Well this has all the hallmarks of an execution as Willetton returned to their best form with an emphatic victory over Rockingham at home on Saturday. Whilst Rockingham did appear to be down in personnel they would be disappointed to walk away with only half a point. For Willetton Alan Walters was the big winner of the day with a 23 shot win over Pietro Villa this win will hopefully help to get their season back on track. Next week Rockingham back at home with a crunch match against Safety Bay whilst Willetton travel to South Perth in what should also be a very interesting game.
