(Garry Hawkes 12 - Robert Ball 26) (Neil Bolton 11 - Michael L Ryan 27) (Peter Easom 19 - Josef Rollnik 21) (Stephen Buckley 35 - Aaron Cole 10)
The Knights crumbled on their own patch as the battle of the bottom feeders ended with the Brook boys pinching all 7 points and leapfrogging the Mavs into 8th spot. Rollin’ Joe got up in a nail-biter over Easom by just 2 — the only rink that bothered turning up for a contest. After that it was open season. Robbie Ball clawed away at Hawkes to win by 14, Mick Ryan sent Lord Bolton to the gallows by 16, and somehow the biggest margin of the day came from the losing side. Buckley took Cole for a ride, winning by a ridiculous 25 shots — a margin that normally gets you home on aggregate. Not today. Cambridge remain rock bottom and are now the best part of two aggregates away from dodging automatic relegation. The jury have reached a verdict!
Quinns Rocks 88 (7) vs Mount Lawley 78 (1)
(Hugh Ward 25 - Andrew Jones 23) (Shane Smith 23 - John Cottier 9) (Steve ONeill 25 - Enda Munnelly 23) (Warrick Ferris 15 - Laurence Kelly 23)
The Mount Lawley Yo-Yos strike again — unstoppable at home, all at sea once the bus leaves the driveway. Shane Smith chalked up the biggest win of the day, rolling Cottier by 14. O’Neil handed the Irish stud his first loss of the season in a tight one, while the Mullet from the North came flying home to roll AJ — a result that’s put a serious dent in any state team chat this week. The shining light for the visitors was Laurie "the Edge" Kelly, who pinched a valuable away point with an 8-shot win over Ferris, reportedly fuelled by a few “motivational” words drifting down the rink. Mounters slip to 4th, Quinns bridge the gap, and the ladder is starting to feel very, very crowded.
Sorrento 70 (2) vs Morley 77 (6)
(Ian Linford 19 - Andrew Elmer 17) (Lance Martin 17 - Victor Orchard 15) (Richard Bone 16 - Christopher Bell 24) (Ronald Rogers 18 - Les Spinks 21)
Morley pulled off the upset we all quietly thought was on the cards, knocking over a depleted Swans outfit in a close one. Bell chimed in with an 8-shot win over Bone, while the Ferret bit again, sneaking past Rogers by 3. The Swans salvaged two home points through the Linford and Martin rinks, keeping themselves clinging to the mid-table pack — but I’ve got them falling faster than my bar card on a Saturday night. Morley drop to 9th courtesy of Ellenbrook’s bigger win, and it’s shaping as a four-horse scrap at the bottom to see who can keep their head above water the longest.
Wanneroo 95 (7) vs Bassendean 59 (1)
(David Anderson 30 - Neil Strachan 15) (David Triffitt 19 - Grant Stokes 23) (Kingsley Toster 24 - John Holman 12) (Pieter Geus 22 - Butch Dinnison 9)
Another chapter in the “home good, away bad” saga. Stokes was the lone bright spot for the travelling Lions, knocking over Triffitt by 4, and that was about as good as it got. Anderson belted Strachan by 15, Toster handled Holman by 12, and Geus butchered the Dinnison rink by 13. Wanneroo stay planted in 2nd, Basso fail to make any ground escaping the mid-pack mash up, and all eyes now turn to the selection table on Guildford Road this week.
Yanchep 98 (6.5) vs Warwick 74 (1.5)
(Brody Dix 20 - Geoffrey Hinge 20) (Callum Arnold 36 - Glenn Yabuka 17) (Daniel Hartzer 23 - Ivan Sparrowhawk 15) (Patrick Daley 19 - Sean Wright 22)
Yanchep did it again at home, handing the ladder leaders a proper old-school belting by 24 shots. Callum Arnold is flying high lately — another dominant 19-shot win over Yabbie — while Hartzer continues his excellent season with an 8-shot win over Sparrowhawk, cementing himself as the second-best performed skip in the comp. Hinge had a good old tug-of-war with Dix and in the end neither man could finish the job, leaving the points split right down the middle, while the No.1 skip in the division salvaged an away point for Warwick with a win over Daley. Yanchep sit third and can count themselves lucky — still winless away — but fortune favours the home bullies. Warwick stay top, though the pack is starting to sniff blood.
