Let's look at each teams chances in a list -
st - Osborne Park at home playing Manning and a win will give them a very good chance of top spot. With their final game at Cambridge a win here is vital for a 1st position going into finals.
nd - South Perth away at Sorrento and I would pencil this in as a lost but Sorrento were woeful last week in different conditions which will give South Perth a chance. Their final game is against Kardinya at home, currently they are 16 clear of 3rd so the double chance looks all but sewn up for our top 2 sides, but a home final will mean so much to South Perth
rd - Kardinya at home to Doubleview and a critical win away last week put them to 3rd and 10 points clear of 5th, which is also Doubleview. A win this weekend and they will be playing finals.
th - Sorrento home to South Perth and they will be keen to put last week behind them and get the points here. Again a win and it makes it hard for the sides outside the finals to catch them, a loss and they are vulnerable. Next weeks game against Manning will either be a nice warm up for finals or a crunch game to hold their spot.
th - Doubleview away at Kardinya in a must win game for them. A double point game in a way because a win means they will definitely catch Kardinya and give them a chance to play finals after Round 18. Their last game at home to Rossmoyne looks very winnable, so this game becomes their knockout final
th - Cambridge away to North Beach and always a tough game away but a win and a loss to either Kardy or Sorrento can give them a sniff. They are only 8 behind 4th placed Sorrento and if they trip up then Cambridge need to win this game to give them any chance. Their final round game is at home to Osborne Park, no easy games at all to finish.
th - Manning away to Osborne Park and Manning are the form side of the competition winning their past 4 games, no other side can boast that and they have strung those wins together at just the right time. They are 10 points behind 4th - do they dare to dream in what would be a remarkable story if they can make it to 4th and finals action. But they finish with 2 tough games, their last against Sorrento. They look safe from relegation, 13 clear of 9th, so even a rink or 2 will probably see them safe.
th - North Beach home to Cambridge and they have displayed some outstanding home form so they start favourites here and a win will see them safe from relegation, especially as their last game is away at Bassendean. They will want to be at least 9 clear of Bassendean for next week as well, it will come down to percentage and if they lose 2 and Bassendean win 2 then it will be very close.
th - Bassendean away to Rossmoyne, the loser of this game is out, the winner depending on other games may mathematically be possible to stay up, but it looks grim. If North Beach lose and get 1 point or less with a 7 or 8 point win to Bassendean then it sets up an exciting Round 18 game against North Beach at home.
th - Rossmoyne home to Bassendean, like above the loser is out and depending on other results a win may make it mathematically possible to survive. However even a win and their road looks less likely with a final game away to Doubleview.
Summary - Round 17 could well decide all relevant places, and yet it could also be a round that opens up Round 18 completely.
