A new season of bowls and many teams with a few new faces.
These are my current predictions for the end of year rankings.
1. Quinns Rock
2. North Perth
3. Wannaroo
4. Yokine
5. Sorrento
6. Joondalup
7. Osbourne Park
8. North Beach
9. Morley
10. Swan
NORTH PERTH v SORRENTO
NORTH PERTH
M Merz, B Horwood, C Dyer, M McEwen
A Kay, J Matthews, D Butler, M Italiano
D Dixon, T Thomas, M Bevilacqua, J Hobbs
N Reagan, S Wilke, T Hampshire, C Buchanan INS: A Kay, C Dyer OUTS: T Prendergast, R Newstead
SORRENTO
D Dunstan, R Bone, M Douglass, R Hillier
L Martin, I Linford, B Lucas, G Bayne
T Orton, B Collins, I Munro, B Kiely
R Rogers, A Anderson, S Baker, J Smith INS: T Orton, A Anderson, M Douglass, I Munro, J Smith, G Bayne OUTS: G Bobridge, J Konig, W Tan, A Walton, C Jasper, W Morrell
North Perth managed to maintain most of their same roster from last year with the addition on Kay, he will certainly strengthen their back end. North Perth should get an early win against Sorrento.
North Perth 7-1
WANNEROO v MORLEY
WANNEROO
M Golding, G Scorer, ???, S Binnie
K Toster, H Whitman, G Jack, I Collins
M Nievelstein, L Bryson, R Burns, B Jefferies
D Anderson, D Griffin, G Sarich, B Bucowski INS: G Scorer, ???, S Binnie, I Collins, B Jefferies OUTS: W Clegg, C Parr, T Vandervogt, T Alden, K Rayner
MORLEY
V Orchard, G Grieve, N Liddington, N Minchin
W Mitchell, I Eichfuss, A Wieland, I Goldsmith
K Perks, C Bell, T Dawson, G Slee
L Spinks, P Leyland, W Hinchcliffe, W Devlin INS: L Spinks, I Eichfuss, N Liddington, T Dawson, G Slee, W Devlin OUTS: G Pinto, M Welham, B Driscoll, K Nazareth, R Geikie, M Robinson
I think Wannaroo are just way too strong for Morley and it may even be an 8 nil start, going to be very hard to beat Wannaroo on their home deck this year.
Wanneroo 8-0
NORTH BEACH v QUINNS ROCKS
NORTH BEACH
G Booker, S Stevenson, D Anderson, R Wilkinson
J Post, R Hunter, R Pennington, P Merritt
L Mitten, G Gregson, J Carlsen, J Cowl
A Howe, C Busch, M McConnell, G Watson INS: G Gregson, C Busch, R Pennington, J Carlsen, M McConnell, R Wilkinson, P Merritt, J Cowl OUTS: R Aitken, E Retallack, R Kuziela, G Barr, J Bartorillo, B Palfrey, P Augustson, R Munday
QUINNS ROCKS
J Berecz, R Cantrill, R Cole, L Johnson
S O'Neill, P Geenacker, S Smith, P Dean
C Parr, D Richmond, G Mountford, E Moore
H Ward, C Bartle, A Burrows, P Wilson INS: C Parr, P Geenacker, R Cole, G Mountford, A Burrows, E Moore, P Wilson OUTS: L Oldham, T Hines, P Wernicke, D Eadie, C Taboni, A Henneker, A Burrows
If Quinns was playing anywhere else, I would back them in, but.... North Beach and their home ground is a huge advantage, so it will be close with maybe the beach winning. Parr back in for Quinns should make them a stronger unit. I am concerned for North Beach with their top team taking a few hits, it will make the divisions below weaker. (N)o real strength of conviction on this prediction.
North Beach 6-2
YOKINE v OSBORNE PARK
YOKINE
S Shaw, W Coffey, C Wemm, J Henderson
P Kelly, S McCann, G Vassilou, R Furci
E Martin, I Cooper, M Sharp, B Morrison
B Marron, J West, P Hunter, F Faigenbaum INS: S Shaw, P Kelly, E Martin, C Wemm, J Henderson, R Furci, F Faigenbaum OUTS: M Lemos, T McGillivray, A Kay, J Kaplan, G Robertson, B Gartrell, G Turner
OSBORNE PARK
L Farrell, C Jasper, I Lilburne, J Minchin
R Lawrence, C Fleay, A Kriletich, G O'Neill
N Stevens, C Orchard, T Vandervogt, M Orchard
M Pasalich, M Rollings, R Littlecott, R Herbert INS: M Rollings, L Farrell, R Lawrence, N Stevens, C Jasper, R Littlecott, T Vandervogt, R Herbert OUTS: F DiGiuseppe, D Rowland, G Nicol, G Smith, W Davidson, P Pasalich, A Smoker, D Kelly
Happenings at the kennel:
Sid (Box) McCann has taken over from Shane Shaw as chairman of selectors and is as energised as ever.
Paul Kelly and Erron Martin have taken on roles as skippers.
Scott Edmunds and past Yokine novice champ Nathan Ashkenazi have come home.
Jeff West and Shane Shaw are bowling the lights out.
Took down North Perth by in excess of 40+ shots in a “friendly” on Sat.
Box has got some of the most reluctant roller uppers out on the greens every Fri afternoon for quite some time now.
With this great update from Yokine, how can I not select them? Yokine underperformed last year with Shaw being selector and trying to show others that positions don't matter, he finally worked out that maybe he should actually skip! Ossie Park outperformed my initial thoughts all year.
Still the home team should win.
Yokine 6-2

Not sure of the teams yet, but I feel that Swan are going to tank this year, the club hoppers have hopped to another club. You notice that they give a temporary boost to their teams and leave them in a mess. Hopefully Swan can form a solid side this year as they've been a very good One Blue side for many years. I still feel that Joondalup might be too strong for them.
