Our final round of fixtures and a lot still to play for both at the top and the middle of the ladder Our premiers Vic Park are locked in for promotion to White for next season but Kalamunda and Kardinya are jostling for positions just behind them Kalamunda with a 3 shot buffer over Kardinya and a win for them at South Perth of Saturday will guarantee them 2nd place and a home match to kick things off in Round 1 of the finals. Kalamunda looked back in some form last week and I an favouring them to get the job done on the weekend.
However should they slip up then Kardinya will need to win at home over Thornlie an a match that could have ramifications for both clubs Kardinya have been back in good form and they only narrowly failed to defeat Rockingham away last week They should get the job done at home over Thornlie and put some pressure on Kalamunda should they slip on Saturday
In terms of the bottom half of the ladder both South Perth and Fremantle will be relegated However the situation for 7th and 8th positions is less clear and there is still plenty to play for with just a handful of points between the various teams in the gun for those positions. Let’s have a quick look at a couple of scenarios:
- Rockingham start the weekend in 4th. A big win for them away from home and a loss from Kardinya could see them sneak into 3rd place. It is hard to see them slipping back into play off territory but they will want a point or two to be certain of surviving
- Thornlie could also go both ways. A convincing win over Kardinya away from home and a loss from Rockingham at Dalkeith could see them jump to 3rd. Conversely a bad loss puts them at risk of slipping back into playoff territory
- Forrestfield enter the weekend under significant pressure. A surprise loss at home to Dalkeith has left them vulnerable. They face a difficult away match at Warnbro. A 6-2 win for Warnbro or better will see Warnbro jump them on the ladder whereas a win will guarantee them safety. The only way that they can then survive is if Rockingham defeat Dalkeith and I think they will be starting their prayers now.
- Dalkeith need to win and win big over Rockingham if they are to have any chance. They have lost just 1 match at home all season and that was to our premiers in Vic Park.An 8 nil win would see them safe and a 7 to 1 win would give them some hope subject to other results. A perfect scenario for them would be Warnbro winning 6-2 over Forrestfield and then Dalkeith winning 6-2 over Fremantle. This would keep them in front of Warnbro and allow them to jump Forrestfield .
In summary I an tipping the following results over the weekend Kardinya 7 -1 over Thornlie Dalkeith 6-2 over Rockingham Vic Park 7-1 over Fremantle Warnbro 7-1 over Forrestfield Kalamunda 6-2 over South Perth
Will there be a surprise however - most likely there will be some if the final round last season is anything to go by. Good luck to everyone over the weekend.
