Round 1 done and dusted with no surprises really as we lead up to the doubleheader. Personally, I think this is a terrific idea and we should have more of them but this isn’t Lords opinion so lets have a look at the week that was
Sorrento 101 (8) vs North Beach 54 (0)
(Bruce Eagles 30 - Chris Margin 16) (Chris Lander 26 - Gavin Crosthwaite 13) (Paul Knight 26 - Joe McGinlay 10) (Rhett Butler 19 - Mark Douthie 15)
Very dominant performance here by Sorrento getting all 4 rinks up and sit at the top of the ladder after the first week. A near 50 shot margin with Eagles, Lander and Knight having comfortable wins. Rhett Butler finishing things off with a 4 shot win over Douthie. Nth Beach will be happy to get back to their ice-skating rink where they are indeed very hard to beat and looking like survival at home will determine their season.
Cambridge 82 (6.5) vs Bassendean 71 (1.5)
(Blake Nairn 22 - Ruairi Kenyon 26) (Cameron Harris 22 - Simon Alden 15) (Clive Adams 22 - David Rhodes 14) (Pieter Harris 16 - Wayne Neilson 16)
The knights getting the job done at home over the Lions who make their return to premier. The knights jumping out of the blocks early with the Nairn and Adams rinks jumping out to a 9 nil lead and I believe the aggregate was over 20 shots early in the game. Adams and Cam Harris getting the boys over the line with wins of 8 and 7 respectively. Pieter Harris shaking off the cobwebs in his return after a few years getting a 16 all draw with Wayne Neilson. Ruairi Kenyon who was in trouble early bounced back to get a 4 shot win over Nairn. Solid start for the nights and the lions can take a lot of positives as they return to the den this week.
Osborne Park 72 (1) vs Doubleview 80 (7)
(Gary Caffell 14 - Ryan Moyle 21) (Jack East 18 - Kyle McIlroy 22) (Ryan Brown 19 - Charlie Slavich 20) (Sean Mawdsley 21 - Anthony Williams 17)
Hardest game of the round for me to pick just tipping the view to sneak this one but it looked like a very solid game across all 4 rinks. The biggest margin coming from the rink of Ryan Moyle with a 7 shot win over Gary Caffell. Kyle McIlroy making his return with a 4 shot win over young gun Jack East and Charlie anything can happen Slavich hung on with a 1 shot win over Ryan Brown. The lone point for the Saints came form Sean Mawdsley’s team with a 4 shot win over Ant Williams.
The Eagles rounding up the top for after week 1 holding off a late charge by the Millers in a replay of last years final by 2 shots. Cody Packer started his campaign well with a 6 shot win over Ross Bresland and was backed up by Will Hyatt with a 7 shot win over Justin Opie. Glen Pauling keeping the Millers in contention with a 11 shot win over Tommy Mitchel. The last rink out there was no surprise Scotty Walker and Shane Knott, with Scotty needing a 4 to win the rink and a 5 to win the game and was in the area with his final bowl just coming up short picking up a 3 to tie up the rink at 19 all
Joondalup 85 (2) vs Mt Lawley 91 (6)
(Ben Leggett 25 - Phil Jones 24) (Jimmy Buchanan 24 - Darren Rowland 27) (Shane Rixom 25 - Corey Bessant 17) (Stein Davies 11 - Daniel Trewhella 23)
Mt Lawley getting their season off to a great start with an away from home win against the dolphins in a high scoring affair. Daniel Trewhella has made his mark from the get go with a 12 shot victory over Stein Davies which proved to be the difference. New recruit Darren Rowland started his skippers campaign with a handy 3 shot win over Jimmy Buchanan. For the Dolphins their points came from newly crowned state 4s champion Ben Leggett with a nail biting 1 shot win over Phil Jones and and 8 shot win to Shane Rixom over Corey Bessant.
