Another interesting round of fixtures with most matches going as predicted. We now have a warm favourite in Vic Park to secure the automatic promotion to One White post a solid win over Kalamunda on the Weekend. The Bill Brandsma rink remains undefeated with the Wishart rink sitting close behind after also winning convincingly. Let’s have a quick run thru the results for Saturday.
Kardinya 109 (7) vs South Perth 73 (1)
(Conn Vinci 43 - David Mortley 8) (Geoffrey White 24 - Max Petrich 23) (Ian Barrie 16 - Peter Holmes 18) (Norm Ball 26 - Steve Kelly 24)
Conn Vinci the man doing the damage on the weekend with a 35 shot win over the Doc Mortley rink (Mortley seeking counselling). Impressive win given that Conn was without his usual 3rd in brother Stephen and I am reliably informed that Steve will need to make his way back into the team via the lower grades. The other 3 rinks were very close but great result for Kardinya and disappointment for South Perth.
Victoria Park Carlisle 87 (6) vs Kalamunda 73 (2)
(David Florance 20 - William Brandsma 26) (Gary Beckwith 20 - Wayne Olive 14) (Graeme Wishart 30 - Dwayne Wooltorton 8) (Lee Such 17 - Ian Cornthwaite 25)
Graeme Wishart and his rink did the damage in this match with a 22 shot win over Dwayne Wooltorton. With Gary Beckwith also winning it was enough for a 12 shot win and 6 points. Bill Brandsma and Ian Cornthwaite were the winners for Kalamunda who have now slipped 9.5 points adrift of top spot and will need Vic Park to drop a couple of matches on the run home if they are to have any chance of getting back to top spot. I do note that Vic Park now face 2 away games in a row vs South Perth and Forrestfield so this might be the opening that Kalamunda are looking for.
Thornlie 88 (6.5) vs Dalkeith Nedlands 80 (1.5)
(Daniel Slade 27 - Andrew Foster 18) (Eddie Gollan 23 - Jesse Brown 23) (Michael Yates 13 - Lindsay Richardson 19) (Norman Holden 25 - Martin Saunders 20)
Daniel Slade was the big winner over Andrew Foster with a 9 shot victory. This combined with Norm Holden defeating Martin Saunders by 5 shots was enough for Thornlie to secure the aggregate and a valuable 6 points. The Jesse Brown rink secured their 2nd draw of the season but are still yet to be beaten whilst Lindsay Richardson continued his good form downing the Michael Yates rink by 6 shots.
Rockingham 72 (6.5) vs Warnbro 64 (1.5)
(Bruce Edwards 9 - Lindsay Strange 20) (Lindsay Atkins 18 - Barry Kalinowsky 18) (Marcus Simpson 19 - George Jackson 17) (Russell McIlveen 26 - Kieran Cousens 9)
An important win from Rockingham at home with Russell Mcllveen the big winner with a 17 shot win over Kieran Cousins. Lindsay Strange hit back for Warnbro with an 11 shot win over Bruce Edwards but it was not enough and Rockingham came away with an 8 shot victory. In rink battle of the day Simpson took on Dr G and in a fierce battle recorded a 2 shot win to retain his position in the top 5 rinks for the season.
More pain for Fremantle with just 1 point in what was a pretty convincing win by Forrestfield in the end. Rhys Tillemans continued his strong form with a 32 shot win over Shaun McCormack to remain towards the top of the skippers table. Wily veteran Dinko Golem rolled back the clock with a 9 shot win over Jarad Weppner. Forrestfield now into 3rd spot and looking to make a strong pus to retain that coveted 3rd placing and a chance to play for promotion.
