The top 4 teams all getting up over the weekend and we are now starting to see a bit of a gap forming. Mt Lawley continuing their winning way and are just about guaranteed to play finals. Manning keeping themselves in the hunt with the next 2 sides still a chance but would just about need to win all their remaining games. Joondalup creeping a couple of points further out of the beef after the other 2 got duck eggs but let’s go through the week that was.
Osborne Park 55 (1) vs Mt Lawley 86 (7)
(Dale Marsland 13 - Mark Masel 21) (John Goddard 12 - Corey Bessant 27) (Kevin Pickering 11 - Daniel Trewhella 22) (Sean Mawdsley 19 - Darren Rowland 16)
Big result here for the Mounters with a convincing 31 shot win over the Saints. Bessant and Trewhella getting big wins and was backed up nicely by Masel claiming 7 points for the away side. The win now puts them 5 points clear on top and looking good to play their first finals series in quite some time if not ever. The loss for the Saints now leaves 11 and a half points out of the top 4, I can’t see them making the finals this year.
South Perth 91 (8) vs North Beach 49 (0)
(Glenn Pauling 18 - Gavin Crosthwaite 12) (John Carter SP 23 - Joe McGinlay 13) (Justin Opie 32 - Chris Margin 7) (Scott Walker 18 - Mark Douthie 17)
The Millers far to strong for Nth Beach handing them another duck egg by 42 shots. Opie was the big winner with a 25 shot win over Margin. Carter and Pauling both getting good wins with Scotty Walker just hanging on to get over Mark Douthie by 1. After the long weekend the Millers will be looking to cement their spot in the finals when they take on Joondalup at home while Nth Beach return home to take on Doubleview.
Cambridge 73 (5) vs Joondalup 72 (3)
(Blake Nairn 18 - Chris Leggett 19) (Cameron Harris 12 - Ben Leggett 18) (Clive Adams 27 - Jimmy Buchanan 17) (Pieter Harris 16 - Wes Neilson 18)
Wow what a close one here with the Knights surviving a scare from the Dolphins getting a 1 shot win with just the one rink. The visitors came to play with Ben Leggatt getting up by 6 over Cam Harris of the battle of the youth. Chris Leggatt and Wes Neilson both just falling over the line to gain valuable points, but it was Plucka Adams that came to the rescue with a 10 shot win over Jimmy Buchannan. 3 handy points for the Dolphins to keep them out of the beef for another week.
Manning keeping their finals hopes alive getting the job done away at the Den. The Eagles getting 7 and a half points and the win now jumps them into 5th. Cody Packer was in trouble early down 11 nil to Steve Jocelyn who came up from white, but the Packer rink clawing back and went on to win the game by 7. Knott and Grigg also getting up while Mitchell getting a draw with Neilson. For the Lions things haven’t been going great losing both Rhodes and Antonio out to Covid during the week and its their 3rd straight loss at home. They should be safe as they are 18 points clear of the danger zone but ideally would want another win or 2 to be certain. They head to Sorrento when we come back from the long weekend in a big game for both sides.
Doubleview 98 (8) vs Sorrento 65 (0)
(Anthony Williams 27 - Paul Knight 12) (Charlie Slavich 23 - Bruce Eagles 21) (Kyle McIlroy 20 - Ross Cunningham 14) (Ryan Moyle 28 - Rhett Butler 18)
Our final game of the round saw the View taking care of Sorrento getting all 8 points. While they still sit in 4th spot they are only 1 point out of second. They will head to the ice rink at Nth Beach in their next encounter and wouldn’t want to take them too lightly as Nth Beach have hit a bit of home form. 6 games left for Sorrento to try and get out of this mess. They host the Lions next up who are also struggling for form and really it’s a must win for them.
