Another great round of bowls on the weekend. We now no a little bit more around likely outcomes for the end of the season but there is still so much to play for. Lets have a quick at the highlights this weekend:
- Firstly congratulations to Vic Park who can be officially declared as One Blue South champions for season 2023/24. No matter what happens from here they will be heading to White next season. They comfortably defeated Dalkeith on the Weekend and it was the big guns of Such and Wishart getting the job done again.
- Fremantle are most likely the first team to be relegated this season. Whilst they still have a small mathematical chance they remain 13 points out of 8th place. The loss away to South Perth has seemingly ended their chances.
- Kardinya have climbed to second position and are now the favourite to claim 2nd place on the ladder following a narrow one shot victory over Forrestfield. Rink results in that match were all over the place but when the siren sounded it was Kardinya walking away with 6 points. Forrestfield remain in the mix and would be strongly favoured to defeat Dalkeith at home next week. They then take on Warnbro away from home and this could be another one of the round 18 matches with a lot on the line for both sides.
- Kalamunda after being in the top 2 spots all season have now dropped to 3rd place after an 8 nil thrashing at the hands of Warnbro. I did foolishly suggest pre match that Kalamunda could take this one but with the slaying of the previously undefeated Brandsma rink things certainly fell apart. Well done to Dr G who continues to enjoy a very good season and Warnbro has now given themselves that chance of getting up into the top 6. It might be time for Billy to throw the magnets around this week in a bid to pull the season back from the brink. Of some note they do play the bottom 2 sides to finish the season so they must still be a chance to reclaim 2nd position.
- It is now down to Dalkeith and South Perth to see who will be our final team to get relegated. Dalkeith have a 6 point lead and remain favoured to survive but if South Perth could get an away win this weekend at Thornlie they will give themselves a big chance. They probably fancy their chances in the final fixture of the season a home match vs Kalamunda with likely a lot on the line for both sides again.
- The other close match on the weekend was the 3 shot win for Thornlie over Rockingham. This has kept Thornlie safely in 6th place but the 8 points earned by Warnbro has them right on the tale of Thornlie. For Rockingham another narrow loss makes it that much harder to claim a top 3 finish and it will probably come down to a home match next week when they take on Kardinya. Win this and they could be back in the hunt.
Take the weekend off everyone - enjoy some time away from bowls and get ready for the final 2 rounds of the season.
Looking forward to the preview in a couple of weeks time.
