Lord Such is absent again so I will be doing the review. In summary, we have some surprising teams in the 4 at the moment. Mt Lawley sit top of the table, Bassendean 3rd and the player drain from South Perth has not affected them as they sit 4th. Ossy Park and joondalup winless at the moment, you expect Osborne Park to turn that around but Joondalup need a win to get their confidence going otherwise this could be a long season.
Mt Lawley 80 (7) vs Osborne Park 77 (1)
(Corey Bessant 23 - Jack East 15) (Daniel Trewhella 19 - Ryan Brown 13) (Darren Rowland 23 - John Goddard 22) (Mark Masel 15 - Sean Mawdsley 27)
This was played Friday night and it was a close finish but early on mt Lawley jumped the Saints, at stages out by 20 odd shots but Osborne Park kept chipping away at the lead, if it was a 22 end game then it might have been a different result but the Mounters hang on and get the 7 points. Good results for them as they sit top of the ladder, a great start with some key personnel inclusions in the off season, they would be delighted with the start they've had.
The other of our Friday night games and again it was South Perth saluting by 8 points. This seems to be a real trend, I don't think they have won at home for 4 years, and those have been night games. I like that teams want to play night games but if North Beach want to win games then they need to play teams other than South Perth at night. It may not make a difference, but winning games is a priority and why not give yourself the best chance to win. This night was a hiding with South Perth winning by 60 shots.
Our Sunday games now and Joondalup are still searching for their first win afdter Cambridge visited and took away 7 points. The absence of Blake Nairn proving no hindrance with temporary skipper Mike Sweeney winning by 17. Wes Neilson after his recent week off a strong performance with his 9 shot win. More worrying for Joondalup is that 2 of their 3 games have been at home, you need to bank home games and pinch away games at this level, Cambridge have done that this game and sit just out of the 4 with 2 wins.
Manning 71 (1) vs Bassendean 93 (7)
(AJ Heal 13 - Ruairi Kenyon 21) (Cody Packer 21 - Simon Alden 19) (Thomas Mitchell 18 - Wayne Neilson 24) (William Hyatt 19 - David Rhodes 29)
Massive upset as Bassendean travel to Manning and get the job done in a very solid manner with 7 points and a 22 aggregate win. 3 solid rink wins for Bassendean, Cody Packer the only winner for Manning, at one stage 20-5 and keeping his team in it but that gap narrowed in a rink of 2 halves and ultimately that meant a comfortable win for the visitors. As we always say away wins are vital and travelling to ther reigning premiers and grabbing 7 points is huge for Bassendean and they sit in the 4 as a consequence.
Sorrento 72 (1) vs Doubleview 82 (7)
(Chris Lander 21 - Anthony Williams 22) (Murray Hulbert 15 - Kyle McIlroy 24) (Paul Knight 16 - Ryan Moyle 17) (Rhett Butler 20 - Charlie Slavich 19)
Usually Sorrento have been the fast starters to a season but they have been a bit sluggish this year, Bruce Eagles absence not helping the cause at all and they leave this weekend with only 3 points with some work to do. Who can pick Doubleview? 2 very good away wins and drop the home game which you can usually bank on. A lot to be happy about with the start from Doubleview to with 2nd and they are setting their season up nicely. Three 1 point rinks with the decider Kyle McIlroy by 9 to seal the agg win. A close match obviously and while Sorrento haven't got the chocolates they would still think they are right in this season.
