Good round for the tipping with 5 from 5. At the end of Round 5 we seem to be heading a little bit towards a 3 tier competition:
The top Tier - the undefeated Kalamunda and Vic Park (only loss to Kalamunda in Rd 1)
Mid Tier - Warnbro and Kardinya (both very hard to beat at home)
Botton Tier - the remaining 6 teams who all look at or around the same level (can some of these teams turn things around and push up the ladder)
And finally it would be remiss not to acknowledge the achievements of our very own Blue South players from Vic Park, Patrick Keeffe, Leigh Such and Graeme Wishart to make the final of the BPL earlier this week at Pine Rivers Bowling club. In a hard fought final they just missed in what was a great performance. Over 900 teams entered the competition and to make it to the final was a great achievement. Well done gents!
A great effort from Kardinya away from home but in the end the class of Kalamunda came through and they secured a 9 shot victory and another 7 points. The Bill Brandsma rink remains undefeated and young Andrew B must be thinking how good is this in his first season of bowls. All rinks were pretty close with the Ian Barrie rink doing best for Kardinya securing a 7 shot win over Wayne Olive. Kardinya will take some positives from this effort and will look forward to getting back to home next week although they will need to bring their A game against the in form Vic Park side. Kalamunda on the road away at Dalkeith and looking to continue their impressive start to the season.
Fremantle 79 (6.5) vs Dalkeith Nedlands 69 (1.5)
(Dinko Golem 18 - Martin Saunders 18) (John Smith 14 - Julian Brown 28) (Kenneth Atkins 21 - Jesse Brown 15) (Shaun McCormack 26 - Lindsay Richardson 8)
Fremantle secured win number 2 this season with a hard fought victory over Dalkeith and 6.5 points. In tricky conditions Shaun McCormack had a dominant day with an 18 shot victory over the Lindsay Richardson rink. The J Brown rink was best for Dalkeith with a 14 shot win and rink battle of the day was between Dinko and Martin Saunders with Saunders securing an important half a point on the last end. Both sides still under considerable pressure with just 2 wins and the next handful of games leading into xmas will be critical.
Victoria Park Carlisle 75 (6) vs Thornlie 66 (2)
(Andrew Daley 18 - Daniel Slade 19) (David Florance 15 - Michael Yates 23) (Gary Beckwith 25 - Norman Holden 9) (Graeme Wishart 17 - Mark Separovich 15)
A great win in the end to Vic Park in the absence of superstar Leigh Such who remained at club Pine Rivers for interviews. In the end it was just 9 shots separating the two teams with the Wishart rink remaining undefeated and Gary Beckwith in great form with a 16 shot win over Norm Holden. Michael Yates and his rink were best for Vic Park with an 8 shot win over David Florence. Thornlie will be disappointed with the start to their season currently sitting in last place. They are definitely better than that and will be keen to get some wins under their belt leading into xmas.
Forrestfield 78 (6) vs Rockingham 73 (2)
(Corey Holland 11 - Mark Devenny 18) (Jarad Weppner 21 - Pietro Villa 20) (Rhys Cummings 14 - Marcus Simpson 18) (Rhys Tillemans 32 - Bruce Edwards 17)
Forrestfield were due for a win and they delivered however in the end it probably got a little too close for comfort. Another really good effort from Rockingham with 2 points away from home a solid return. The Tillemans rink were best for Forrestfield with a 15 shot win over Bruce Edwards but wins from Simpson and Devenny made things close in the end. Forrestfield face another tough away game this week at Thornlie and Rockingham also away at South Perth - so things don’t get any easier for both clubs.
Warnbro 93 (7) vs South Perth 71 (1)
(Barry Kalinowsky 24 - Michael McRae 19) (Garry Watts 19 - Steve Kelly 22) (George Jackson 20 - David Mortley 11) (Troy Dellar 30 - Peter Holmes 19)
Warnbro back on home turf cruised to an easy victory over South Perth. With wins from Kalinowsky, Dellar and the good Dr G the result was never in doubt. Steve Kelly and his rink did well to get a 3 shot win over Gary Watts. Warnbro with another home game next week against Fremantle will be looking to consolidate their position towards the top of the ladder. South Perth head home for a must win match against Rockingham.
