Another very interesting round of fixtures and a change at the top of the ladder after round 6. I have been on the Kalamunda bandwagon all season but there first defeat away from home vs Dalkeith Nedlands has changed my thinking. Vic Park now sit on top after there 5th win in a row and of some significance for them I note the inclusion of Louie Beurteaux for his first game this season. This really strengthens the Vic park back end and according to my Indian bookmaker friend Virat Suchy Vic Park are the new favourites to finish top in one blue south. For those of you who might be interested in having a flutter on one blue south fixtures reach out and I can put you in touch with Virat but as Virat reminded me always think about what else you could be doing with this money.
Dalkeith Nedlands 88 (7) vs Kalamunda 66 (1)
(Andrew Foster 31 - Ian Cornthwaite 15) (Jesse Brown 23 - Wayne Olive 15) (Lindsay Richardson 25 - Dwayne Wooltorton 11) (Martin Saunders 9 - William Brandsma 25)
Probably the upset of the season to date with Kalamunda suffering there first loss of the season to Dalkeith. Comfortable wins to Andrew Foster, Lindsay Richardson and Jesse Brown allowed Dalkeith to easily carry the aggregate and mean that Dalkeith remain unbeaten at home. Bill Brandsma and his rink recorded another comfortable win and remain the only undefeated rink in one blue south. Whilst an away loss is not the end of the world for Kalamunda they will be disappointed to lose this one and concede top spot to Vic Park. Dalkeith breathe new life into their season but face another stern test this Saturday as they travel to Vic Park looking for there first away win of the season.
Kardinya 63 (2) vs Victoria Park Carlisle 68 (6)
(Conn Vinci 15 - Graeme Wishart 14) (Geoffrey White 20 - David Florance 13) (Ian Barrie 12 - Gary Beckwith 24) (Norm Ball 16 - Lee Such 17)
I did select Kardinya at home however I did so without knowing that Louie Beurteaux would be playing his first game of the season for Vic Park. His inclusion is a significant one given his ability and experience and the rink results highlight this Gary Beckwith recording a 12 shot win over Ian Barrie with Beurteaux playing as his 3rd. In rink of the day honours the Vinci family were too strong for the previously undefeated Wishart rink by a solitary shot and it was somewhat similar in the match between ironman Norm Ball and Lee Such with Such coming out on top also by 1 shot. Great result for Vic Park and they assume top of the ladder status and bragging rights going into round 7.
Warnbro 70 (6) vs Fremantle 69 (2)
(Barry Kalinowsky 26 - John Smith 16) (Garry Watts 14 - Kenneth Atkins 12) (George Jackson 16 - Shaun McCormack 18) (Troy Dellar 14 - Dinko Golem 23)
A real nailbiter with Warnbro surviving a thriller at home vs Fremantle to secure the Agg by just one shot and a valuable 6 points. Reports emerged post game that ASADA were seen arriving at the Warnbro bowling club and that all Warnbro players would be subject to testing. Full credit to the Freo boys who really took it up to Warnbro however in the end it was the Barry Kalinowski rink with a 10 shot win over John Smith that helped secure the victory. This week Warnbro will be away at Kalamunda whilst Fremantle return home and take on South Perth in a must win match for both teams.
South Perth 66 (1) vs Rockingham 97 (7)
(David Mortley 16 - Bruce Edwards 24) (Farley Anderson 19 - Mark Devenny 17) (Michael McRae 16 - Russell McIlveen 32) (Peter Holmes 15 - Marcus Simpson 24)
Great result for Rockingham as they secure their first away win of the season and a valuable 7 points. I did think this was a possibility with an under strength South Perth side this week combined with the competitive performances from Rockingham so far this season. Wins to Marcus Simpson, Bruce Edwards and Russell Mcllveen helped Rockingham secure a 31 shot win. It was left to the experienced duo of Farley Anderson (filling in for Steve Kelly)and Max Petrich to secure South Perth’s only point. A quick look back at the bowls records shows that veterans Anderson and Petrich first played together back in the 1980’s. They were formidable back then and remain tough to beat today. It’s not panic stations yet for South Perth but they will be keen to get a couple of wins under their belt in the lead up to xmas.
Thornlie 85 (7) vs Forrestfield 62 (1)
(Daniel Slade 24 - Rhys Cummings 14) (Mark Separovich 15 - Rhys Tillemans 20) (Michael Yates 21 - Jarad Weppner 16) (Norman Holden 25 - Corey Holland 12)
Thornlie were due for a big win at home and they duly delivered with a 23 shot win over Forrestfield. Wins to Michael Yates, Daniel Spade and Norm Holden helped get the win and 7 points to get Thornlie off the bottom of the ladder. The only winner for Forrestield was Rhys Tillemans who defeated Mark Separovich by 5 shots. Thornlie will be keen to build on this win and will be aiming for their first away win of the season against the in form Rockingham. Forrestfield return home to face Kardinya in another must win match.
