Another round done and we saw our first draw for the season, a change in the top 4 again and more surprises took place. Certainly a very interesting season so far but let’s have a look at the results.
Mt Lawley 79 (4) vs South Perth 79 (4)
(Anthony Einfeld 21 - Scott Walker 24) (Corey Bessant 19 - John Carter 16) (Daniel Trewhella 15 - Ross Bresland 23) (Darren Rowland 24 - Justin Opie 16)
What a game this was and certainly didn’t disappoint the bowls fans that attended. Not only the first draw of the season but 2 rinks each both with a plus 3 and a plus 8 in the margin. The 8 shot margins coming from Darren Rowland over Justin Opie and Ross Bresland giving Daniel Trewhella his first loss for the season. Scott Walker just falling over the line by 3 over Anthony Einfeld and it was the same for Corey Bessant over John Carter. On the last end it was the game up for grabs with Rocco converting with his final bowl to hold game for the Millers but DT getting the shot back with his final bowl and sealing 4 points each for both teams. The Millers still just holding on to top spot by 1 point and Mt Lawley sneaking back into the 4 by just half a point.
8 points for the Knights away from home and sees them jump up to second spot on the ladder with a big 47 shot win. The Knights starting to hit form with 3 wins on the trott and getting the job done here with 3 out of the 4 rinks winning comfortably. For North Beach well what can you say but it’s disastrous really and find themselves in all sorts of heck with 4 duck eggs so far for the season and only 1 point from their last 3 home games. I’m not even sure if Batman could get them out of this mess and are now suffering big losses on what was the best home advantage in the comp. While Sorrento is within reach a big turnaround is required for these guys to hold on if they want to stay in Premier.
Doubleview 73 (1) vs Bassendean 93 (7)
(Anthony Williams 14 - David Rhodes 26) (Charlie Slavich 18 - Ruairi Kenyon 18) (Kyle McIlroy 22 - Wayne Neilson 22) (Ryan Moyle 19 - Troy Kinnane 27)
Well I picked a 7-1 result but I picked the wrong team and what a win here for the Lions with a 20 shot win without dropping a rink. The damage coming from the rink of David Rhodes who is in great form defeating Ant Williams by 12 shots. This was backed up by Troy Kinnane in his first year at the club with an 8 shot win over Ryan Moyle. The 1 point for the home side came from Charlie Slavich and Kyle McIlroy both having draws and now sees them fall out of the top 4 for the first time this year but only by half a point.
Sorrento 80 (1) vs Osborne Park 95 (7)
(Bruce Eagles 18 - Sean Mawdsley 24) (Chris Lander 26 - Ryan Brown 23) (Paul Knight 16 - John Goddard 22) (Rhett Butler 20 - Jack East 26)
In a high scoring affair Osborne Park taking the 7 points on the road with a much needed win here. The 3 rink wins for the Saints all came by 6 shots with wins for Mawdsley, Goddard and East. They return home next week to take on Nth Beach and will be confident to make it 3 in a row and push towards a top 4 spot. For Sorrento their one rink win came from Chris Lander over Ryan Brown by 3 shots. I’m not really sure what’s going on but it just doesn’t seem to be working at the moment and find themselves sitting 8th on the ladder and aren’t all that far from being in the beef. Things don’t get any easier either as the head to Manning next week.
No surprise here with the premiers far too good for the new comers with a 26 shot win. The Eagles getting things back on track at home and it was Shane Knott with the big win of the day recording a 15 shot win over Ben Leggett. This was backed up by Lewis Grigg and and Cody Packer both getting up by 9 and 7 respectively. Chris Leggett getting the 1 point for the Dolphins with a 5 shot win over Tommy Mitchel. The Dolphins head back home next week and if they can find a way to beat the Lions they can put some pressure on Sorrento and close the gap on 8th spot while the Eagles get another home game against Sorrento.
