Once again we have a change at the top and only 6.5 points separate 2nd and 6th. A couple of maximums took place and the bottom 3 will have some work to do to get out of the beef and looks like they will be fighting it out to stay in the comp. A massive last round coming up before the break but lets go through the results.
Mt Lawley 87 (7) vs Doubleview 76 (1)
(Cameron Green 26 - Kyle McIlroy 23) (Corey Bessant 24 - Anthony Williams 14) (Daniel Trewhella 14 - Charlie Slavich 29) (Darren Rowland 23 - Ryan Moyle 10)
Well the change of venue paid dividends for Mt Lawley and walk away with 7 very handy points and jump up to second heading into the last round. Impressive wins coming from Darren Rowland, Corey Bessant by 13 and 10 with Cam Green holding off Kyle McIlroy by 3. For the View, well they will be very disappointed with this especially after having a good rink win with Slavich over Trewhella. Only 2 points from their last 2 games sees them drop from 2nd to 7th and will host the top of the table Cambridge when they return home for the last round. Mt Lawley will head to the den as they take on Bassendean.
Manning 94 (8) vs Sorrento 58 (0)
(Cody Packer 25 - Ross Cunningham 15) (Lewis Grigg 27 - Rhett Butler 12) (Shane Knott 20 - Bruce Eagles 14) (Thomas Mitchell 22 - Paul Knight 17)
The Eagles making the most of their 2 home games with 15 out of the 16 available points. They collected all 8 with a convincing win over the struggling Sorrento. Lewis Grigg didn’t muck around recording a 15 shot win over Rhett Butler and was backed up by Cody Packer nicely getting up by 10. Knott and Mitchell finishing things off and now sit just 1 and a half points out of 4th. For Sorrento with Joondalup winning now only sit 1 and a half points a head of them and will face them when they return home next week in a must win encounter.
Osborne Park 97 (8) vs North Beach 50 (0)
(Jack East 26 - Joe McGinlay 12) (John Goddard 20 - Mark Douthie 16) (Kevin Pickering 23 - Ross Dempsey 9) (Sean Mawdsley 28 - Geoffrey Devenish 13)
Exactly what the doctor ordered for the Saints, they needed to pounce and pounce they did. They handed poor Nth Beach another egg getting all 8 points and are starting to hit their straps. Sean Mawdsley Jumps straight to the top of the skippers ladder after his 15 shot win over Geoff Devenish and good wins also coming from East and Pickering. Big one for the Saints next week as they head to Sth Perth and can jump into the 4 with a win. Nth Beach will return home to take on Manning to finish off the first half of a long season.
The Dolphins continue to cause the Lions grief by getting their first home win for the season with a 3 shot margin and 6 valuable points. From reports I believe the Lions looked well in control leading by almost 30 at the half way mark. Chris Leggett picking up a 6 and a 5 in consecutive ends was the key in his 8 shot win over Troy Kinnane and Shane Rixom picking up a 7 on the last end to beat returning skipper Simon Alden by 11. David Rhodes continued his strong season with an 11 shot win also and Ruairi Kenyon by 5 over Benn Leggett. It appears that the Lions let this one slip but still remain in the 4 and return home next week to take on second place Mt Lawley. The win for the Dolphins gets them within 1 and a half points of Sorrento and that’s who they take on next week. If they can win that they will be out of the beef for the first time this season.
Cambridge 88 (7.5) vs South Perth 77 (0.5)
(Blake Nairn 22 - John Carter SP 15) (Cameron Harris 18 - Ross Bresland 16) (Clive Adams 24 - Scott Walker 22) (Pieter Harris 24 - Justin Opie 24)
The Knights claim top spot heading into the final round of the first half taking care of the Millers at home by 11 shots. They led the whole way, but the game was up for grabs come the end. Blake Nairn had the biggest of the margins, but it was his last 2 ends picking up 6 shots to defeat John Carter by 7. Cam Harris was well in front of Ross Bresland before losing the lead but also winning his last couple of ends to get home by 2. Adams also winning his last end to get over Scotty Walker by 2 and Pieter Harris just hanging on for a draw with Opie picking up a 4 on the last end. The loss for the Millers drops them back to 4th but will return home to take on the Saints in a big one for both sides. The Knights will head to Doubleview to complete a very exciting round.
