Well what an exciting finish to the first half of the season and probably the closest for quite some time. Not sure how many would of picked this and I certainly wasn’t one of them but it’s Mt Lawley heading into the second half leading the field. Only 2 points separate 3rd to 7th and the bottom 2 sides both finishing with a win. Would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and let’s finish off with a look at the results
Bassendean 71 (0.5) vs Mt Lawley 95 (7.5)
(David Rhodes 18 - Darren Rowland 31) (Ruairi Kenyon 15 - Cameron Green 25) (Troy Kinnane 17 - Corey Bessant 18) (Wayne Neilson 21 - Daniel Trewhella 21)
Mt Lawley with a dominant performance here taking care of the Lions at the Den and finishing the first half on top. Rowland and Green getting the job done for the away side with comfortable wins with Corey Bessant just falling over the line by 1. A draw for Daniel Trewhella was good enough to reclaim the top skippers rank and although the Ozzie Park win counts as a home game it is 2 wins on the road for them. The Lions, crikey they won’t be happy with the last fortnight only getting 2.5 points after their great win over Doubleview. They drop to 6th on the ladder but are only 1.5 points out from being back in the 4. A good return to premier for the Lions so far and we will see how things pan out for them in round 2.
In comes Chevy and we’ll take all 8 points thank you very much! Big turn around here for Doubleview knocking off the top of the table a Knights by 27 shots. The maximum win sneaks them back into the 4 and I believe Slavich is now back for the remainder of the season. The duck egg for the Knights drops them back to 2nd sitting 3 and a half points ahead of Sth Perth and will make a very interesting bout for the return match in the last round. My early prediction is that these 2 teams will battle it out in the final.
Nth Beach finishing beautifully with a win against the defending premiers. Mark Douthie causing the damage with a 13 shot win over Tommy Mitchell and was backed up with Gavin Crosthwaite getting up by 5 over Cody Packer. Sneaky wins for Grigg and Knott gets 2 points for the Eagles and will be glad to get this game out of the way as they look to push for finals in the second half.
South Perth 74 (2.5) vs Osborne Park 76 (5.5)
(John Carter SP 24 - Sean Mawdsley 13) (Justin Opie 24 - John Goddard 15) (Ross Bresland 15 - Kevin Pickering 15) (Scott Walker 11 - Jack East 33)
Osborne Park once again getting the points winning by 2 shots in a nail biting finish at Sth Perth. The home side getting good wins with Opie and Carter but it was the big win for Jack East over Scotty Walker by 22 shots. 4 wins in a row for the Saints to get their season back on track and only sit half a point out of the 4. Results going the Millers way jumps them up to 3rd spot and will welcome back Glenn Pauling into the side for round 2.
Well it may be only by half a point but the Dolphins are out of the beef for the first time getting the chocolates on the road at Sorrento.
It was all done with the rink of young Benny Leggett with a monster 34 shot win over Chris Lander. Sorrento it’s not good news for them at all and now need to regroup in the second half. I still think they will hang on but they won’t want to head to Joondalup needing to win in the final game. 2 wins in a row a nice finish for the new comers and with the return of Jimmy Buchanan for the 2nd round will give them the confidence they can hang on to premier.
