Welcome to the new season and boy what an exciting division this promises to be. We welcome the Mounters and the Cambridge Knights –both of whom finished top of their respective 2nd division tables, as well as the Magpies from Warwick who challenged their way into Blue after defeating the Dolphins. We also welcome back the View after a disappointing year in White. So hold on to your hats, because the season is coming.
Doubleview v Wanneroo

Doubleview
Nigel Feletti, Antonino Gullotti, Michael Leed, Brandon Heta
Fred Williamson, Jarrod Steele, Taylor Pervan, Lindsay Thorn
Brent Penberthy, Lee Barry, David Leed, James Barry
Alan Bloxham, Luke Martin, Gary Papadopoulos, -

OUTS:

Wanneroo
Robert Burns, David Burns, Echo Widermanski, Martin Nievelstein
Neil Williams, Glen Jack, Harold Whitman, Kingsley Toster
Brian Bucowski, Gareth Hughes, Derek Griffin, David Anderson
Stuart Binnie, Noel Davey, Rod Beazley, Michael Golding
INS:
OUTS:

Wanneroo are a steady contender year in, year out and have some very experienced players. Doubleview have named a team with a mix of experience and youth and after only winning 3 games last year in white, will be looking to get off to a good start in this game at home. Brandon Heta will need other rinks to notch up some wins this season if they want to challenge. I think the View will take a few weeks to get going this year and settle on team combinations and with Wanneroo having quality mainstay bowlers, I’m predicting an early away win for the Roos.
Wanneroo 6-2

North Perth v CAMBRIDGE

North Perth
Michelangelo Italiano, Craig Buchanan, Todd Hampshire, Anthony Kay
Jeremy Matthews, Jamie Stewart, Richard Newstead, Chris McKenna
Mathew McEwen, Michael Lake, Timothy Thomas, Benjamin Horwood
John Hobbs, Ruby Leggett, Sally Wilke, Markus Merz
INS:
OUTS:

CAMBRIDGE
Andrew Ness, Stuart Lofthouse, Scott Palmer, Nicholas Lewis
Keith Granger, Alistair Duncanson, Geoffrey Jones, Neil Bolton
Matt Dragicevich, Edward Leahy, Wallace Manning, Garry Hawkes
Phillip McShane, Peter Easom, David Phillips, Clifford Wooldridge
INS:
OUTS:

Two teams who I think will finish in the top 3. North Perth had a good crack last season at promotion and with another year under their belts and some back end reinforcements will bode well for them. Chris McKenna is a very good addition and with the top Skip in the division from last year in Ben Horwood should be perched close to the top come end of season. Neil Bolton and his rink finished top of their division last year and they have some quality players with PL experience in the team. Nick Lewis is a PL standard player and will be a dangerous prospect for any opposition and has the potential to carry aggs against some teams this season. I think the Pioneers will win this one – even without their head cheerleader Handsome.
North Perth 6-2

North Beach v Sorrento

North Beach
Geoffrey Watson, Robert Munday, Ian Wardrope, Gary Gregson
Matthew Buttel, Trevor Evans, Ed Retallack, Garry Barr
John Cowl, William Brown, Sandy Stevenson, Alan Howe
Todd McMahon, David Anderson, Graeme Mackenzie, Jeffery Post
INS:
OUTS:

Sorrento
Pauline Bourne, Stanley Lindsay Baker, Richard Bone, David Dunstan
Gary Bayne, Brian Lucas, Alan Walton, Ronald Rogers
Philip Potts, Arren Zis, Ian Linford, Lance Martin
Ian Munro, Mal Burton, Peter Morgan, Timothy Murray
INS:
OUTS:

A lot of experience across both teams and very familiar. Both club’s PL teams last year were disappointing, with North Beach getting relegated and Sorrento hanging on in a final sudden death blockbuster against the Dolphins. There hasn’t been too many injections into these sides, North Beach survived a challenge final last season whilst Sorrento finished in 6th. I’ll give this one to North Beach at home.
North Beach 7-1

Mount Lawley v Yokine

Mount Lawley
Denham Delmore, Mark Glasson, Guy Herriot, Phillip Park
Peter Callison, Mick Palumbo, David Smith, Enda Munnelly
Janice Miles, John Fielding, Carmelo Lenzo, John Cottier
Jane Lewis, Ian Watt, Keith Scott, Laurence Kelly
INS:
OUTS:

Yokine
John Henderson, Terry Needs, Garry Robertson, Shane Shaw
Stephen James, John McGrath, Richard D'Souza, Wayne Coffey
Terry Fulcher, Clifford Wemm, Ian Cooper, Jeffrey West
Fred Faigenbaum, Julie Cooper, Paul Hunter, Martin Sharp
INS:
OUTS:

Mt Lawley are a club on the up and with a few new recruits in Premier League, this dominant team from last season has been strengthened even more. Top 3 skippers in the division last year from Mount Lawley and only lost 1 game all year. Yokine finished 2nd last year and were beaten by North Perth to challenge for promotion. Shane Shaw led the division as the best performing skip and news around the tracks is that Brad Morrison might be suiting up at some stage. These two sides have a lot of history and it’s always a spicy affair. I think Yokine had to take their chance last season and with a stronger division this season, might struggle to reach finals. Mount Lawley will be too strong in this one.
Mount Lawley 8-0

Quinns Rocks v Warwick

Quinns Rocks
Paul Dean, David Eadie, Erron Martin, Steve O'Neill
Lawrence Johnson, Glenn Mountford, Neville Costello, Shane Smith
Antony Burrows, Alan Barker, Christopher Bartle, Hugh Ward
Trevor Hines, John Carrigan, Rohan Cantrill, Derek Richmond
INS:
OUTS:

Warwick
Kevin Humfrey, William Shand, Raymond Loran, Geoffrey Hinge
Gary Chappell, David Lyons, Ivan Sparrowhawk, Brian Ledingham
Wayne Wyatt, -, Clive Boyle, Allan Hornby
Bernie McNamara, Andrew Dixon, Glenn Yabuka, Sean Wright
INS:
OUTS:

Quinns had a steady season last year, however it looks like Berecz is missing along with Chris Parr who was their best performing skip. No need for panic stations, they have Ward and O’neil who are very experienced and Shane Smith is a solid performer and with Neville Costello slotting in at 3, will be a tough rink to beat. Warwick have come up to Blue from 2nd divi and it will be interesting to see how they perform. Leddingham, Hinge, Sparrowhawk are all household names, however I think they’ll be up against it this year. Quinns to get their season off and running in this game.
Quinns 7-1
