Match of the round to kick things off and both will have a point to prove. The Kalamunda side looks improved from last season with the inclusion of Frank Carbone and they retain last seasons best performing rink headed by state player Bill Brandsma. Rossmoyne headed as always by the Mayor of Rossmoyne, Rawley Lang will be very tough to beat at home. There are rumours the committee are looking at approving the construction a large statue of Lang that will greet all bowlers as they enter the club. We will wait and see but despite tipping Kalamunda as No 1 seed I think Rossmoyne can get this one and kick the season off with a win.
Rossmoyne 6-2

Yet to see the Kardinya side but based on last season they were very hard to beat at home. The Vinci party normally had a picnic and I cannot see them having any trouble beating Thornlie. Of note the Thornlie side will have to do battle without experienced skipper Michael Yates. They will try hard but Kardinya should be too strong.
Kardinya 7-1

Speaking of teams with a strong home ground advantage, Warnbro are the kings. Headed by a team of very capable and experienced skippers they did not lose a match at home last season. But the away wins were few and far between and they will need to improve this aspect if they are going to improve their ladder position. Great to see Cockburn return to one blue and even better to see Steve Srhoy still playing in his favoured skipper’s role. This will be a difficult start to the season for Cockburn and I expect a comfortable Warnbro win
Warnbro 8-0

Dalkeith who just survived last season take on the newly promoted Willetton in what should be a close match. Dalkeith headed by Jesse “the gunslinger” Brown will be favoured at home and in general acquitted themselves well last season after promotion the season before. Willetton are treading a similar path after a premiership in Division 2 last season. Cameron Girvan is a quality player but with the gunslinger in full flight Dalkeith should be too strong at home.
Dalkeith 6-2

Interesting match to conclude Round 1. Rockingham are an emerging team headed by young gun Marcus Simpson and his capable sidekick Stuart Currie. Bill Brandsma sits as the No 1 seed but Simpson is number 2 in terms of playing quality and potential. His rink will be hard to beat during the season. Forrestfield are also a capable side headed by the talented Tillemans boys and Jarrad Weppner. Rockingham also have a very strong home advantage and I expect that they will come out on top in this fixture.
