There's some interesting games this round where some sides will be feeling eah other out but after the dust settled on R1, I'm going 5 from 5 for the home sides.
Mosman Park v Victoria Park Carlisle
Mosman Park
Mark Whiting, Robert Kershaw, Campbell York, Mitchell Cranswick
Nicholas Parker, Jeffrey Adams, Christine Ace-Watson, Lisa Featherby
Mario Van Bemmel, Jason Kop, Terry Cranswick, Steven Swanson
Aidan O'Sullivan, John Pallett, Damian Adams, Cameron Hoffman INS: Stower, Robertson OUTS: Van Bemmel, Swanson
Victoria Park Carlisle
John Hiskins, Kynan Johnston, Andrew Daley, Graeme Wishart
Charles McKay, Gregory Williams, Michael Simms, David Florance
Graham Archell, James Parry, Leanne Gale, Lee Such
Jonathan Jermalinski, Murray White, Patrick Keeffe, Gary Beckwith INS: Johnston, Gale OUTS: Neethling, Beurteaux
Mossies did well in R1 holding their own against a rampant home track bully in the Titans. They have the Reds this round who laid down the gauntlet in R1 with a dominant display to put themselves on the map & possible Finals contenders.
Mossies dropped some close home games last season & going 2 from 6 at the start of last season really set them back making the home stretch challenging. Locking away the early home games will be huge for Finals chances & they showed enough fight last week to justify favs here.
Bassendean 6 - 2
Osborne Park v Manning
Osborne Park
Jarrad Minchin, Richard Bennett, Kevin Price, Aaron Kriletich
Graeme O'Neill, George Smith, Pierre Geenacker, Neville Stevens
Richard Herbert, Bryan Hunter, Edan Manifis, Jeremy Thomas
Shaan Saunders, Helen Stevens, Pamela Chalmers, Shari Solly INS: Price OUTS: King
Manning
Ian White, Steven Salamon, Geoffrey White, William Fraser
Jared Moulton, Graham O'Brien, Gregory Hogg, Michael Carey
Nigel Rees, Joe Angel, Adam Macpherson, Paul Smith
Otto Dawson, Mark Ellis, Allan Taylor, Wayne Heldt INS: No change OUTS:
The Saints had a perfect start to R1 with a huge away Agg & with that it's difficult to go against them here especially with the ladies rink on their home deck. No doubt the Eagles will be eager to grab some points after dropping a winnable home game but the concern was the margin in the end. Could they bounce back, yes certainly & have played well away last season but Ossy Pk were very good at home last season with the likelihood of continuing this as they know they'll have tougher home games if they are genuinely aiming for Finals.
Osborne Park 7 - 1
Joondalup v Cockburn
Joondalup
Hannes Louw, Martin Cheesman, Michael Korycin, Jon Hunter
Shane Nelligan, Mark Ryan, Roy Humfrey, Barry Crawford
Johann Louw, Frank Tyson, Thomas Vlahos, Shane Ernest Rixom
Brett Driscoll, Brian McMurdo, Paul Kain, James Groves INS: Vlahos, J Louw OUTS: Teeuwissen, Webber
Cockburn
Dante Burnham, Brian Blagaich, Dinko Golem, Marc Abonnel
Giuseppi Reale, Ivan Mateljak, Josip (joe) Marevic, Tony Krajancic
Denis Bandy, Mark Barrett, Anthony Burnham, Derek Gibson
Stephen West, Greg Collier, Michael Simunovic, William Tepania INS: Brotherston, Reale OUTS: Francis, Musulin
GAME OF THE ROUND: Probably justified as game of the round as these 2 sides should be eyeing up Finals as a minimum target. Yes the Titans do not travel very well & haven't had much experience on the Dolphins track but they have reduced the big losses on the road so I expect this one to be close, less than a dozen shots.
If the home side don't bring their A game, the Titans will roll them & I feel with the close finish last week with their great away side, a slow start will give Cockburn a chance that they'll likely not give up. The Titans can certainly take this one but the Dolphins at home & coming down from PL should manage their home track & grab another valuable Agg.
Joondalup 6 - 2
Leeming v Gosnells
Leeming
Anthony Williams, Brian Eather, Peter Boys, James Bowden
Alan Andersson, Lionel Mundri, Phil Dobie, James Newton
Noel Bennetts, Doug Johnson, Trevor Higham, Gary Ford
Wayne Birrell, Marcus Bowden, Paul Hickey, Karl Vandersluys INS: No changes OUTS:
Gosnells
David Bradbury, Rod Worth, Catherine Sharp, Eoghan Gahan
Jeff Watson, Trevor Close, Ian Quayle, Glenn Lynch
Ronald McKay, Larry Paterson, Alex Hodge, Brett Holland
Michael Byrne, Mike Rickard, Maureen Cooney, Rue Bishop INS: Sharp OUTS: Beauchamp
The Lions were impressive in R1 & put Manning to the sword in an impressive manner. Gosnells just dropped the Agg late so they know they are about the level they need to be against a ex.PL side. However, the Kookaburra's dropped some 100+ away games last season so there's a big question mark on their away form, it's either good or not so good with little middle ground. Leeming were solid at home all season so it's unlikely to change & they went 3 in a row last season from R2 after they found their legs, so I'd expect them to build on last week & put this one away early.
Leeming 7 - 1
North Beach v Bassendean
North Beach
Tui J Niwa, Michael McConnell, Sean Niven, Steve Wood
Brent Fielding, Rhonda Prosser, Geoffrey Devenish, Mark Douthie
Garry Booker, John Bartorillo, Steve Richards, Michael Sweeney
Jerome Clayton, Brent Palfrey, Richard Aitken, Gavin Crosthwaite INS: Richards, Aitken OUTS: Butler, Carlsen
Bassendean
Saffronne Alden, Ted Alden, Geoffrey Malaspina, Garry Atkinson
Anthony Parravicini, Joel Hitchcock, Darryl Blight, Butch Dinnison
Gregory Sadler, Murray Robinson, Alan Britton, Neil Strachan
Norman Kirkup, John Holman, Ian O'Neill, Jovan Krstic INS: Hitchcock OUTS: Hall
Yes North Beach were poor last week but it probably was more around 1 rink which caused the damage & they are a different beast at home. Basso won't be too phased about the fast track but rain is expected with wind & if that materialises then it's the home side all the way. As hard as it might play in good weather, it's worth a few big shots if the weather changes.
Basso had 1 from 5 to start last season & that made the chase difficult in the mid section so they'll be keen on getting some points on the board but unsure if they can magic this one from the home side coming down from 1 Red.
