Interesting round this one with 5 games that could really go either way. At this point in the season, little buffers start to open up between the top 3 and bottom 3 as teams look to stay out of the bottom 4 in this brutal division and the race to the top 3 final spots begins. Let’s get into it.
North Beach v North Perth
North Beach
Peter Merritt, Trevor Evans, Richard Hunter, Terry Jones
David Vinicombe, Sandy Stevenson, Gary Gregson, Lee Mitten
Matthew Buttel, William Brown, Ed Retallack, Garry Barr
John Cowl, David Anderson, Alan Howe, Jeffery Post INS: Merritt, Mitten OUTS: Yates, Mackenzie
North Perth
Michelangelo Italiano, Ruby Leggett, Brett Havercroft, Anthony Kay
John Hobbs, Michael Lake, Todd Hampshire, Markus Merz
Mathew McEwen, Simon Struthers, Timothy Thomas, Benjamin Horwood
Jeremy Matthews, Chris Niven, Sally Wilke, Chris McKenna INS: Gray, Wilke, Italiano OUTS: Butler, Horwood, Newstead
The Pioneers travel to the feared home track of North Beach where the favorite son of Farmer Street makes his return along with Wilke and Italiano. North Beach welcome Mitten into the side who takes on the skip role and Merritt slots in at lead. North Perth start the game in 3rd spot on the table and North Beach are sitting in feared 7th spot, however only 4 points separate the two sides so North Perth will be looking to consolidate their position in the top 3 and create a buffer between them and the sides below. Home games are vital for North Beach and they will want to win this one so they don’t lose touch with the sides above. This is North Perth’s side to send a message to the rest of the division and I think they have the firepower to do so. I feel North Perth are a very strong team on paper with 4 quality skips and if they show up on the day, should be too strong. These are the games the top teams need to win and I think they can in a close one.
North Perth 6-2
Wanneroo v Cambridge
Wanneroo
Stuart Binnie, Noel Davey, Gregory Sarich, Michael Golding
Robert Burns, Tim Reid, Echo Widermanski, Martin Nievelstein
Neil Williams, Glen Jack, Harold Whitman, Kingsley Toster
Brian Bucowski, Gareth Hughes, Derek Griffin, David Anderson INS: Sarich, Reid, Griffin OUTS: Beazley, D Burns, Jefferies
Cambridge
Andrew Ness, Steven Draper, Scott Palmer, Nicholas Lewis
Keith Granger, Alistair Duncanson, Geoffrey Jones, Neil Bolton
Mark James, Edward Leahy, Clifford Wooldridge, Andrew Garlick
Phillip McShane, David Phillips, Wallace Manning, Garry Hawkes INS: Draper, Garlick OUTS: Lofthouse, Leeson
2nd vs 4th in this one as the Knights head north to face the Roos. Wanneroo coming off 2 losses in a row will be looking to get their season back on track on their home surface against a carpet club. Wanneroo welcome back two quality back end players into their team to strengthen the side and with Toster not losing a game yet, they look to be a tough proposition. Draper comes in for Cambridge along with Andrew Galick who’s name I have not seen yet this season. Garlick is a quality player and comes in to skip which has strengthened the Cambridge team overall. Hard one to pick this one with two strong sides going at it, just because it's at Wanneroo I will tip them to win, but expect a close one
Quinns Rocks
Trevor Hines, Paul Dean, Peter Wernicke, Steve O'Neill
Lawrence Johnson, Glenn Mountford, Neville Costello, Shane Smith
David Eadie, John Carrigan, Rohan Cantrill, Derek Richmond
Paul Papadoloulos, Antony Burrows, Christopher Bartle, Hugh Ward INS: Martin, Eadie OUTS: Wernicke, Hines
Another intriguing game this one as the top of the table Quinns side travel to the Mounting Yard. Quinns are firing at the moment, led by the all conquering Shane Smith rink who has scored an average of over 30 shots per game. I’m sure Smith has been bowling well, however having Neville Costello as a third must be a luxury…Wernicke and Eadie come in for the travelling side, while Herriot and Park come in for the Mounters – two Premier standard players slotting into the same rink. This game is flooded with talented bowlers on both sides with PL experience and should be a cracker. Quinns have been consistent all year and Mounters look to have built some momentum over the last few weeks. Will we get the match up we want in Park vs Smith? Mounters will want to win this one at home and although Quinns have been dominant so far, I think their run will come to and end this week.
Mount Lawley 7-1
Doubleview v Yokine
Doubleview
Brent Penberthy, Edward Johnson, David Leed, Cameron Bell
Thomas Mainstone, Antonino Gullotti, Max Young, David Cosgrove
Fred Williamson, Jarrod Steele, Taylor Pervan, Lindsay Thorn
Arthur Tomich, Luke Martin, Gary Papadopoulos, Mark Fredericks INS: Bell, Young OUTS: Barry, Bloxham
Yokine
Garry Robertson, Julie Cooper, Brett Marron, Richard D'Souza
John Henderson, John McGrath, Debra Rhine, Shane Shaw
Fred Faigenbaum, Clifford Wemm, Paul Hunter, Martin Sharp
Geoffrey Turner, George Vassilou, Jeffrey West, Ian Cooper INS: Marron, Henderson OUTS: Coffey, Furci
Yokine come into this game after two wins on the trot, whilst Doubleview are on the bottom two aggregates off 8th place and coming off a 39 shot belting last week at the hands of Mount Lawley. For Doubleview, Cam Bell comes up from the lower division to skip along with Max Young who slots in at 3rd. Yokine welcome Brett Marron into the fold to replace Coffey in the back end. Coffey has been instrumental in winning the last couple of aggs so how much of an impact will that have on the team set up. Yokine are sitting in 5th place at the moment and will look at this game as a big opportunity to climb into the top 3 or 4 with two of the top 4 teams playing each other this week. Doubleview really need to start firing, however, I think the Doggies team will be too strong on a familiar surface and will add to Doubleview’s relegation worries this season
Yokine 7-1
Sorrento v Warwick
Sorrento
Philip Potts, Arren Zis, Peter Morgan, Timothy Murray
Steve Mortimer, Lily Leach, Richard Bone, David Dunstan
Gary Bayne, Ian Munro, Ian Linford, Lance Martin
Trish Cunningham, Barney Fleiser, Stanley Lindsay Baker, Ronald Rogers INS: Martin OUTS: Orton
Warwick
Andrew Dixon, Larry Middleton, Graeme Smith, Raymond Loran
Kevin Humfrey, William Shand, Clive Boyle, Geoffrey Hinge
Richard Booker, Bernie McNamara, Glenn Yabuka, Sean Wright
Gary Chappell, Colin Shier, Ivan Sparrowhawk, Brian Ledingham INS: No change OUTS:
Very important game for both sides as 8th hosts 7th. One agg separates these sides so a win for Warwick will open up a two game break on Sorrento, while Sorrento can close the gap with a win. Lance Martin comes in to the side to skip in place of Orton, so a like for like there, whilst the Maggies remain unchanged. Both teams are in the danger zone, so they’ll both be eager to record the W. I’ll go with Sorrento being at home, but again, I think this one will be close.
