The Swans (7th 4-4) welcome the Roos (6th 4-4) in the battle to finish the first half of the season our of those feared challenge spots. Both teams coming off a win last week and will be eager to nab this one and set themselves up for the run home. Derek “Cowboy” Griffin takes a rink, with the rest looking to be the usual suspects. Tipping a close one here, could go wither way, but I am going to go with the travelling Wanneroo side who showed a lot at the start of the season and will be looking to gain some momentum leading into the break.
Wanneroo 6-2

Yokine v North Beach

Yokine

Rocco Furci, John McGrath, Debra Rhine, Shane Shaw
Fred Faigenbaum, Clifford Wemm, Paul Hunter, Richard D'Souza
Garry Robertson, Julie Cooper, Jeffrey West, Wayne Coffey

OUTS: Marron

North Beach

Peter Merritt, Trevor Evans, Richard Hunter, Terry Jones
Matthew Buttel, William Brown, Ed Retallack, Paul Butler
INS: Bartorillo, Vinicombe, Butler
OUTS: Howe, Cullen, Barr

Both Teams coming off a loss last week. North Beach (9th 2-6) lost at home against a grass side and when North Beach lose a home game, the panic starts to set in for them as they don’t often rely on their away record. The Doggies (8th 3-5) lost to Wanneroo and have performed well below expectations this season. Brett Marron goes out of the side after playing for 3 different skips for the past 3 weeks so Yokine are still looking for some compatibility and consistency by the looks of things. North Beach will be eager to win this one as if they don’t they’ll be 2 aggregates behind Yokine. This game is Yokine’s chance to find some confidence with a win at home, however if they don’t, they’re my new favourite for automatic demotion.
Yokine 6-2

Quinns Rocks (2nd 5-3) had their home ground breached last week for the first time, but still sit in second and they travel to the yet to be conquered Stable to take on a wounded Knights side (4th 5-3) who lost 0-8 last week against the Mounters. No notable changes for the Cambridge side as they look to maintain their fortress and stave away the top 4 challenge of the Magpies who are ready to swoop. The Quinns side isn’t in yet, however it’s been quite consistent led by the most popular Smith in the world right now – which is a fair accomplishment…When’s this guy going to drop a rink? Is it this week? I don’t think so. He’s going to carry his team to victory again and the Stable will be breached in somewhat of an upset?
Quinns Rocks 7-1

Warwick v Mount Lawley

OUTS:

Big game here as Mount Lawley (3rd 5-3) travel to the Magpies Nest to take on an in form Warwick side (5th 4-4). Warwick enjoyed a very impressive away win at the feared North Beach ground, while the Mounters thumped Cambridge 8-0 at the Mounting Yard. Steve “hokey pokey” Connell comes into the Mounters side and slots in at 3 to Munnelly while Keith “half time sandwich” Scott goes over to the Kelly rink. Warwick look to be unchanged and why not! They’ve been the surprise packet of the season so far and giving it a red hot crack. This is a tough one to call, however I think the Mounters side packs a bit more of a punch at the moment with multiple players having played PL This season, it’ll be enough to get them the W.
Mounters 7-1

North Perth v Doubleview

North Perth
John Hobbs, Michael Lake, Todd Hampshire, Markus Merz
Leeanne Gray, Ruby Leggett, Jeremy Matthews, Chris McKenna
Michelangelo Italiano, Richard Newstead, Brett Havercroft, Anthony Kay
Mathew McEwen, Simon Struthers, Timothy Thomas, Benjamin Horwood
INS: Leggett
OUTS: Wilke

Doubleview
Thomas Mainstone, Taylor Pervan, Max Young, David Cosgrove
Fred Williamson, Jarrod Steele, Mark Fredericks, Lindsay Thorn
Nigel Feletti, Gary Papadopoulos, Winton Langdon, Cameron Bell
Brent Penberthy, Alan Bloxham, David Leed, James Barry
INS: Feletti, Penberthy
OUTS: Gullotti, Johnson

Finally, top meets bottom as the View (10th 2-6) travel to North Perth (1st 6-2). The Pioneers are flying at the moment and achieved what nobody else has achieved last week and beat Quinns away. Doubleview on the other hand are rooted to the bottom of the table and will need to collect their thoughts over the break and come back firing. Sally Wilke looks to be out for the hosts while no notable outs for the visitors. Cameron Bell has been impressive since moving up with 3 wins out of 3, however with 2 of the North Perth skips in the top 5 with only 1 loss between them, I think the home side will be too strong on their home turf and will finish the first half of the season on top and leave the View side reeling on the bottom.
North Perth 8-0
