Round 10 is now run and won and we now seem to have 3 distinct sections on the ladder
Top section - We have Kalamunda, Rockingham and Kardinya fighting for that all important top spot on the ladder. I think this could go right down to the wire particularly post a couple of away wins from both Kardinya and Rockingham yesterday. Kalamunda are still favourites but they will need to keep playing well to get the top spot come round 18.
Mid Tier - This is where Willetton, Cockburn and Thornlie sit. Of the 3 I think Cockburn are the one that could push the top 3 teams. They seem almost unbeatable at home and if they could pinch an away win they would put themselves right in the mix.
Bottom tier - It at this point seems hard to see how the bottom 4 can actually get out of the bottom 4 over the next 8 rounds. All 4 have at various stages looked competitive but lacked any real consistency particularly away from home. Every point will be critical with the goal for all 4 to get out of the bottom 2 positions and avoid automatic demotion.
Kalamunda continued where they left off with a comfortable 7-1 victory at home over Rossmpyne. Bill Brandsma and his team were the big winners of the day with a comfortable 12 shot win against Reza Vind. The solitary point for Rossmoyne came from Alan Petchell with a one shot win over Dwayne Wooltorton. Kalamunda travel to Warnbro next week whilst Rossmoyne has a must win fixture at home over over Thornlie.
Cockburn 120 (8) vs Warnbro 47 (0)
(James Wylie 31 - Troy Dellar 9) (Paul Brotherston 20 - Barry Kalinowsky 16) (Peter Burgess 33 - George Jackson 10) (Steve Srhoy 36 - Dennis Pattullo 12)
I thought pre game that 4 changes to the Cockburn side might leave them vulnerable to Warnbro but how wrong I was. Cockburn secured all 8 points in a crushing 73 shot win. Steve Srhoy by 24 shots and Peter Burgess by 23 were the big winners on the day. Cockburn travel next week to take on bottom of the table, Dalkeith and a victory there would see them well in contention to push for a top 3 finish. Things don’t get any easier for Watnbro with a clash against table toppers, Kalamunda at home. They need a win desperately but for the first time in a while they will not start favourites at home next week.
Willetton 80 (7) vs Dalkeith Nedlands 71 (1)
(Alan Walters 28 - Andrew Foster 16) (Cameron Girvan 23 - Jesse Brown 21) (Gavin Dodge 17 - Martin Saunders 14) (Justin Wright 12 - Darren Redeckis 20)
Dalkeith looked to have pushed Willetton all the way but in the end Willetton walked away with a 9 shot win and 7 important points to keep themselves in contention. All rinks were tight affairs with the exception on Alan Walters who secured a 12 shot win over Andrew Foster to carry the aggregate. Next week Dalkeith have a must win match at home against Cockburn to give themselves any chance go getting out of the bottom 2 on the ladder. Willetton travel to Rockingham in what should be a tough away fixture.
The rejuvenated Kardinya side proved way to good for Thornlie in securing 7 valuable points away from home. The big winner for Kardinya was Ross Knapp over Owen Perryman by 18 shots. They were able to restrict the Perryman rink to just 4 shots over the day which is an impressive effort in an away match. Rober Carruthers was the sole winner for Thornlie with a strong 23 shot win. Kardinya back at home next week to Forrestfield whilst Thornlie travel to Rossmoyne in a very important match for both teams.
Forrestfield & Districts 70 (2) vs Rockingham 92 (6)
(Glenn Sewell 18 - Marcus Simpson 22) (Jarad Weppner 26 - Bruce Edwards 19) (Rhys Tillemans 14 - Lindsay Atkins 13) (Trent Tillemans 12 - Mark Devenny 38)
Rockingham too good in the end for Forrestfield with a strong 22 shot win and 6 valuable points. The big winner for Rockingham was Mark Devenny who defeated the Trent Tillemans rink by 26 shots. Rockingham now looking dangerous and in the mood to push Kalamunda all the way. I note that they do play Kalamunda at home in mid Feb in what could be a season defining fixture for both sides. Forrestfield still under pressure towards the bottom of the table and face a tough fixture next week away at Kardinya.
