We had some real proper upsets this Round that threw the table around giving it a real mix up. We'll try put together the final predictions after R12 for Friday if we can crunch all the numbers in time. Unsure how accurate it might be after the last few rounds with some huge upsets but we'll give it a red hot crack.
Osborne Park 64 (2) vs Gosnells 83 (6)
(Jeremy Thomas 24 - Eoghan Gahan 10) (Mark Rollings 5 - Daniel Newton 33) (Neville Stevens 13 - Rue Bishop 25) (Pamela Chalmers 22 - Glenn Lynch 15)
What an upset, probably the upset of the season if we were to be honest. What a performance from the Kookaburra's when their season was hanging by a thread. To hit the Saints for 6 was 1 thing but let's be honest what Newton did to Rollings will scar, probably for life. There's beat downs, mauling, touchups & then there's Dan 'the Gravity' Newton display against Mark 'the rollover' Rollings, sorry for those that didn't see the result 33-5, yep I didn't miss a digit there, 28 shot win & 1 to remember for a lifetime. Hope everyone was ok after that game. Bishop wasn't far behind touching up Nec by a dozen. Thomas grabbed 14 back from a Gahan rink that just got to double figures. Chalmers keep going with they have all season against Lynch by 7 & themselves & Thomas are the powerhouses for the Saints Finals chances. Chalmers is now the top skipper in 1 White & only lost 1 single game all season (last round), the closest next lost 4 games. What a season from Pam & the girl power crew (sorry Kev).
Can Gosnells get to safety, maybe with only 7pts off but they can get to playoffs which is only 1.5pts away. Could this be the come back of ages, unsure but hell of a start to the story if it is.
(Alan Heal 29 - Jovan Krstic 18) (Michael Carey 18 - Butch Dinnison 19) (Paul Smith 20 - Stein Davies 15) (William Fraser 22 - Neil Strachan 21)
Huge win for the Eagles as their season flops week to week between Finals & Playoffs. Yes up to 6th now but it's only 0.5pt back down to 7th. Yet by miracle Manning are only 3,5pts off 3rd, unbelievably close this season, literally every shot counts.
All games were very tight across the rinks with nothing in it until Heal rolled Krstic by 11 shots & that was the decider in the end. Basso probably deserved more than just 1pt but this time of the season survival is down to small margins. Manning have pushed a gap to playoffs & they'll need to maintain that as Mossies & the Reds will come at them hard. Basso may at best make Playoffs but its a stretch, full survival is not achievable but they've done massive just to give themselves a chance of Playoffs which could easily happen if they keep the form going.
Result: Mannings 7 - 1
Prediction: Manning 7 - 1
Leeming 87 (6.5) vs Cockburn 76 (1.5)
(Gary Ford 24 - William Tepania 19) (James Bowden 16 - Tony Krajancic 16) (James Newton 17 - Marc Abonnel 28) (Karl Vandersluys 30 - Michael Simunovic 13)
With the Dolphins nipping at their heels the home side grabbed a big home win against a solid top 4 side. Only 11 shots between the sides in the end so it was close & the Titans won't be hugely disappointed with 1.5pts but they barely hold that last finals spot by score differential only.
The 2 standouts were Abonnel 11 shot win over Newton but Vandersluys grabbed that back with a massive 17 shot drumming of Simo & that was probably the difference in the end. Let's not forget what the Lions have achieved this season, they were forced to play demotional playoffs last season & just survived after epicly dropping their bundle over the last 4 games & only won 2 of their last 14 games. Yet they come out this season with the guts of the same side losing only 2 from 12 & sit within probably 4 wins of a massive ticket to the big dance for a proud local club.Wonderful story.
These 2 will surely play Finals but the Titans need more than 6 wins to get there, so they'll need to pull the finger out over the Feb & yes need an away win. Surely if North Beach can win away the come on Cockburn can grab another 1 this season.
Joondalup 83 (6.5) vs Victoria Park Carlisle 78 (1.5)
(James Buchanan 18 - Michael Simms 16) (James Groves 23 - Graeme Wishart 23) (Jon Hunter 18 - Louie Beurteaux 20) (Shane Ernest Rixom 24 - Lee Such 19)
The home side got pushed hard from the Reds but just hung on to a narrow 5 shots win as the Reds put up a huge fight so they wouldn't drop lower into the playoffs. Unfortunately they're there now & in trouble. Dolphins know they are within distance of Leeming if they drop an Agg, so this one will be very close right to the end. Can't see anyone but the top 2 sides fight out for that free ticket to the big dance.
All games were super tight across the boards so no standouts but the Reds will still value that 1.5pts because if they didn't they could be 9th given what Gosnells did at Osborne Park. 2 contrasting 7 weeks left for both sides but yet a huge amount to play for each & neither have an easy game in R13.
(Cameron Hoffman 16 - Steve Wood 12) (Lisa Featherby 20 - Michael Sweeney 17) (Mitchell Cranswick 12 - Gavin Crosthwaite 19) (Steven Swanson 13 - Richard Aitken 24)
And what a double header we had here. Had to check the skyline for meteors or solar eclipse or some sign that the world is coming to an end after North Beach snatched a massive AWAY win to send them straight into 3rd on the ladder in a massive jump up the table. With another 1 big Agg they are likely safe for the season so they can really go for it from here, nothing to lose.
Mossies now drop into the playoffs & they'll now need to guts of 3 Aggs to stay up from here & only 6 games left.
Result: North Beach 6 - 2
Prediction: Mosman Park 6 - 2
