15 Rounds completed and boy – oh – boy, what a congested ladder! North Perth remain top of the table, Doubleview remain, bottom, however plenty of movement across the board. It’s going to be an exciting dash down the straight for a finals showing.
North Perth 81 (6) vs North Beach 61 (2)
(Anthony Kay 34 - John Carlsen 9) (Benjamin Horwood 12 - Garry Barr 19) (Chris McKenna 16 - Paul Butler 19) (Markus Merz 19 - John Bartorillo 14)
The Pioneers got the job done as expected, however would be disappointed to only grab 6 points against the second bottom side, especially with a frantic fight for finals with 3 rounds to go. North Beach on the other hand would be pleased to pick up 2 away points as they gear up for their up hill battle of survival. Pommy the big winner over Carlsen by 25 shots did the job and Marcus “The Hammer” Merz picked up another point for the home side. Butler served Chris “The Third Reindeer” McKenna an away loss and Garry Barr picked up a win over Horwood. North Perth need to travel to the land of the Thoroughbreds as they take on the high flying Mounters while North Beach host a struggling Knights side.
Cambridge 72 (0) vs Wanneroo 94 (8)
(Andrew Garlick 19 - David Anderson 21) (Neil Bolton 18 - Kingsley Toster 28) (Nicholas Lewis 19 - Martin Nievelstein 25) (Scott Palmer 16 - Pieter Geus 20)
Somewhat of an upset here saw the travelling Roos side conquer the Stable for the first time this year, handing the Knights their first home loss of the season. The No.2 skip in the division with the cans with his 10 shot win over Lord Bolton with the other 3 rink all within 6 shots. This lifts Wanneroo back up to 2nd spot on the table and they are timing their hop home well. The Knights need to lift, as they are now in the dreaded 7th spot in 1 Blue and after spending a lot of time in the top 4 this year, they look to be in a bit of trouble.
Quinns Rocks 56 (0) vs Mount Lawley 81 (8)
(Derek Richmond 13 - Phillip Park 22) (Hugh Ward 14 - Andrew Jones 15) (Shane Smith 15 - Michael Erceg 18) (Steve ONeill 14 - Guy Herriot 26)
Second donut of the round has been served, and it’s Mount Lawley doing the honours, picking up 8 points on the road and galloping into 4th position. Guy “Feathers” Herriot and Phil the Thrill with dominant wins over O’Neill and Richmond ensured the agg as State team prospect AJ picked up a win over The Mullet and it was a last bowl super trail from the Croatian Stud that did the damage over the strong Smith rink. Mounters and coming good at the right time and will be licking their lips welcoming the Pioneers to the Mounting yard for the GAME of the Round clash as they look to close the gap at the top. BREAKING NEWS: The Mounters PL side are playing Friday night so my sources tell me the Peanut Gallery will be in full force!
Yokine 84 (6) vs Doubleview 83 (2)
(Paul Kelly 31 - Mark Fredericks 12) (Richard DSouza 16 - Cameron Bell 28) (Shane Shaw 25 - James Barry 19) (Wayne Coffey 12 - David Cosgrove 24)
Wow what a ripper this one looked to be. A one shot agg win to the Doggies keeps them in the hunt this season as they close the gap on pack above and are now only 3.5 points behind 6th. Kelly was making gravy again and has come leaps and bounds this season and before too long the game was up and he had won by 19 shots, without doing any dumb things. His win along with Shane “Winter Coat” Shaw was enough to cover the 2 lost rinks on the day as Bell chimed in for a 12 shot win over The Glove and Cosi’s win over Coffey by 12. Doubleview will be playing one blue next year and Yokine have put themselves in a position to mount a charge for safety with 3 to go.
Warwick 80 (6.5) vs Sorrento 63 (1.5)
(Brian Ledingham 23 - Ronald Rogers 10) (Geoffrey Hinge 19 - David Dunstan 19) (Glenn Yabuka 21 - Timothy Murray 13) (Raymond Loran 17 - Lance Martin 21)
HUGE win for Warwick in this one as they charge up the table and back in finals contention. For Sorrento, they remain in the top 3 and won’t be too deterred by this loss as Warwick have been very impressive this season. I’d love to see a statistic about how many combined games of bowls those 8 skips have played! Ledingham has had a season to remember and I’m sure one of his best ever – could he just be hitting his prime? His win over Rogers by 13 shots was the most damaging and with Yakuba’s win over Murray by 8, thos was enough to guarantee the agg. Hinge and Dunstan couldn’t be separated and Martin picked up a handy away point for the visitors with his win over Loran. Both teams in the mix, however it’s going to be a hotly contested top 3 this season and every point is
