Eventually the gaps would appear and it now looks like there's some space between top middle and bottom. With 4 games to go this was a huge weekend for every side with nearly every team having something big and meaningful to play for. We've have some upsets and super tight games which shows the nerves are starting to show into the final few weeks of the season.
Victoria Park Carlisle 67 (2) vs Manning 74 (6)
(Gary Beckwith 22 - Paul Smith 20) (Lee Such 14 - William Fraser 19) (Louie Beurteaux 12 - Alan Heal 23) (Michael Simms 19 - Michael Carey 12)
GAME OF THE ROUND: There was sooo much riding on this game. The Reds were screaming for the win in a real double pointer but went crashing out of this game and may be 1 White by 7 shots in a very hard fought contest. The Reds have been very close many times this season but close isn't good enough when it comes down to counting points. They do probably have the softest final 3 games from any side so they might be able to pull the rabbit from the hat yet but it is unlikely.
Beckwith got the home side off to a good start against Smith rink winning by 2. Simmo knocked over Carey by 7 shots & it started to look like the home side were in control. Then Fraser got the better of Such by 5 to even the ledger. But Heal had Beurteaux by a commanding 11 shots which was the difference in the end result.
Manning crawl into safety by the minimum of margins 0.5pt but now have 2 of the ;ast 3 games at home which gives them a great chance of survival, although the R18 game will be very tricky.
(Chris Margin 33 - Douglas Kelly 15) (Gavin Crosthwaite 19 - Pamela Chalmers 13) (Mark Douthie 19 - Neville Stevens 27) (Michael Sweeney 9 - Jeremy Thomas 26)
North Beach had this one in the bag until the last end with an epic come back from the Saints to grab a massive 6pts away from home swapping positions with North Beach on the table and now giving themselves a genuine look at that 4th and last Finals spot for early April.
This game had big numbers spread across all rinks with tit-for-tat scoring making sure the game was always balanced on a knife edge. Sweeney got rolled by a solid Thomas rink by 17 shots to get the Saints off to a great start. However, Margin pumped Kelly by 18 shots and instantly turned the tables. Crosthwaite took care of the ladies (in reliving his past) with 6 shots over Chalmers and with that North Beach knew knocking off one of the best rinks in the Divy would be good enough to grab the chocs. But nobody told Nev as they also rolled back the years with 8 shot win over Douthie to snatch a massive 6pts and all but assure North Beach will not be playing Finals & definitely will not be returning to PL this season.
The Saints now jump into 4th spot but only by a minor margin. They do have a solid chance of playing Finals but have a tough final 3 games. Next round v Mossies will a huge game, winner takes a more commanding position in 4th.
Result: Osborne Park 6 - 2
Prediction: North Beach 7 - 1
The Titans took this with some ease but might think they dropped at least 1pt here against one of the bottom sides. They are now only 0.5pt off 2nd but have 2 of the next 3 games away so they'll be challenged to hold even that 3rd spot unless they can get another record breaking away win.
Abonnel rolled Bishop by 16 with plenty on the tank with the away side struggling to get into double figures until near the end. Krajancic dropped to Lynch by 4 shots in a great win for the Kookaburra's. Dinko squared the ledger with some extra sauce by 9 over Quayle. Then Gahan edged Big Willie by 3 shots to grab a valuable 2pts on the road.
Are Gosnells playing 1 White next season, unsure, it's a real dog fight for that last automatic demotion spot but they will not get to true safety in 6th so this R16 game will be an absolute BLOCKBUSTER. Not just bottom of the table clash with the Reds, this game will define who goes down. Whoever loses in R16 against both these sides is 1 Blue, it's that big of a game.
Result: Cockburn 6 - 2
Prediction: Cockburn 7 - 1
Joondalup 82 (6) vs Bassendean 75 (2)
(James Groves 24 - Bryan Roper 14) (Jon Hunter 14 - Jovan Krstic 26) (Shane Ernest Rixom 27 - Neil Strachan 17) (Thomas Vlahos 17 - Butch Dinnison 18)
Probably a little too close for comfort for the home team again this season but they are finding ways to get over the line especially at home where they are normally so dominant. With Leeming dropping the ball, the Dolphins now return to the top of the table by 1.5pts and yes ladies and gentlemen this is going right down to 5pm on R18 to see who gets a ticket to the Big Dance.
Hunter dropped a dozen against Krstic as the big man made short work of the home side. Rixom got 10 of those shots back straight away against Strachen and suddenly it was game on. Groves pulled up the sleeves to roll Roper by 10, then Butch edged Vlahos by the minimum but it just wasn't enough in the end to get the Agg. Home side take the 6pts and with it top spot.
Gallant in defeat, the Lions headed back down the freeway knowing that true safety was now gone and with it a high percentage chance of even playoff safety, although next week's blockbuster between 8th and 9th might be of interest. It will be hard to recover 10pts in 3 games but Basso have being playing well over the back 9 and do have 2 of the final 3 games at home but they are tough ones.
(Cameron Hoffman 18 - James Newton 22) (Lisa Featherby 19 - Gary Ford 15) (Mitchell Cranswick 23 - James Bowden 19) (Terry Cranswick 22 - Karl Vandersluys 16)
Mossies needed a huge Agg and they got it by 10 shots against the mighty Lions in an epic encounter that saw some amazing bowls all day from both sides. The win still leaves Mossies in that dreaded 7th spot but only 3pts from Finals, its that close in mid-table.
Cranswick had Vanders by 6 shots, then the other Cranswick had Bowden by 4. All looked well in the family affair up to that point Featherby had Ford by 4 to lock away 7pts for the home side. Then Newton pinched back 1pt against Hoffman as they needed every point to stop Joondalup running away into top spot.
Similar to the 8th v 9th game we have another R16 absolute BLOCKBUSTER but guess what folks this one is even bigger, bigger prizes, bigger rewards, bigger pressure..........unless you play this R16 game in R18 it just couldn't get bigger. Yes folks Leeming play Joondalup in R16, WINNER TAKES ALL. Whoever wins this gets the ticket to the Big Dance, simply!! Not Game of the Round....this is GAME OF THE SEASON!!
Result: Mosman Park 7 - 1
Prediction: Mosman Park 6 - 2
