(Allan Hornby 10 - Benjamin Horwood 24) (Brian Ledingham 21 - Markus Merz 11) (Geoffrey Hinge 29 - Anthony Kay 14) (Sean Wright 20 - Chris McKenna 12)
I said in the preview this game would tell us a bit more about Warwick and how they’d perform this year. What better way to send a message out to the rest of the pack than to beat one of the favourites by 19 shots and bag 7 points. The Pioneers would be disappointed with this one, however it’s always tough to travel to an unfamiliar track and win. Ben Horwood ticked off his rink win like he does so often, however with Hinge and Ledingham turning back the clock with big wins and Wright getting one over McKenna, the boys from the North came away with the goodies. Warwick proving that they’ll be tough to beat at the nest this year.
Wanneroo 82 (6) vs North Beach 80 (2)
(David Anderson 23 - Garry Barr 16) (Kingsley Toster 26 - Alan Howe 20) (Martin Nievelstein 15 - Paul Butler 25) (Michael Golding 18 - Jeffery Post 19)
Wanneroo falling over the line here in a much tighter contest than I would have expected. Wanneroo is always a tough place to win and North Beach haven’t always travelled too well…Anderson and Toster doing the damage here, with Post and Butler grabbing a couple of handy away points.
Yokine 91 (6) vs Quinns Rocks 84 (2)
(Ian Cooper 15 - Hugh Ward 18) (Martin Sharp 27 - Derek Richmond 21) (Richard DSouza 22 - Shane Smith 27) (Shane Shaw 27 - Steve ONeill 18)
The doggies are always very territorial at the kennel and proved to be too strong for the travelling Crays in a high scoring affair. Martin Sharp obviously gave his wounds from last week a good licking and came out firing for a win and with Shaw getting a leg up over O’Neil, it was enough to outdo the mighty effort by Smith and Ward. Both teams would come away from this game without too much to worry about, it’s a good win for Yokine at home against a strong Quinns side and a couple of away points for the visitors.
Sorrento 66 (1.5) vs Mount Lawley 95 (6.5)
(David Dunstan 20 - Enda Munnelly 18) (Ian Linford 17 - Laurence Kelly 17) (Lance Martin 14 - Phillip Park 33) (Ronald Rogers 15 - John Cottier 27)
Mount Lawley go two from two with a comprehensive away win against Sorrento. Two big rink wins from Phil Park and John Cottier’s rinks did the damage with Laurie Kelly picking up an extra half a point for the visitors. David Dunstan grabbing a consolation point for the home side and they go 0-2 to start the season with a tough trip away to Quinns next week. Mounters head home to host Wanneroo in a top of the table clash.
Cambridge 89 (7) vs Doubleview 66 (1)
(David Jones 27 - James Barry 15) (Garry Hawkes 20 - Brandon Heta 19) (Neil Bolton 20 - Lindsay Thorn 22) (Nicholas Lewis 22 - Mark Fredericks 10)
Finally we head to Cambridge who took care of a travelling View side. Davey “Octopus” Jones and Nick Lewis both recording 12 shot wins and Garry Hawkes getting up by one over the dangerous Heta rink. Prickles Thorn grabbing a consolation away point for Doubleview and they slip to the bottom of the table and will host North Beach next week in a must win game. Cambridge continue their good start to the season and will be at home again next week when they host Warwick.
