Another very interesting weekend in One Blue South - let’s look at this week’s highlights:
- We may well now have a new premiership favourite with Kardinya assuming top spot on the ladder after defeating the previously undefeated Kalamunda over the weekend. In the end it was pretty comfortable 7-1 victory with only the Brandsma rink able to record a win for Kalamunda.
- Fantastic effort from Bill and his rink and with the defeat of Marcus Simpson over the weekend they remain the only undefeated rink after the first 5 rounds. Essentially a replication of last seasons winning streak - how far can they go and who will stop them?
- Not far behind the Brandsma rink is the “Dangerous Danny” Comrie rink who sit 4 from 5 after posting a 12 shot win over Wayne Olive. The Kardinya selectors should do themselves a favour and keep a close watch on this man should any gaps open up in the Premier side.
- Despite the above things can change quickly - Kardinya travel to the Warnbro graveyard for visiting teams next week whilst Kalamunda back at home against Thornlie. A big one for Kardinya as away win could be critical come the end of the season in what promises to be a tight tussle with Kalamunda.
- The other big highlight over the weekend took place at the Dalkeith bowling club. Talk of Dalkeith’s demise may have been premature as they came out swinging and knocked “The Mayor and the rest of the Rossmoyne team to the canvass with an 8-0 victory. Did not see that one coming and can Dalkeith build on this win.
- They have another home match next week against Rockingham and another victory would really get their season back on track.
- Rossmoyne will be disappointed with that result and they will look to bounce back next week at home against a solid Willetton side.
- Speaking of Willetton they tried hard over the weekend but in the end Forrestfield were a touch too strong recording a 7-1 victory. Alan Walters was the sole winner for Willetton defeating Trent Tillemans whilst the big winner for Forrestfield was the classy Jarrad Weppner with a 12 shot win over Gavin Dodge.
- Both teams with tough fixtures next week. Willetton with another away fixture at Rossmoyne whilst Forrestfield travel to Cockburn who are undefeated at home this season.
- Rockingham recorded an expected win at home over Warnbro over the weekend. For Warnbro it was the Barry Kalinowski rink back in good form with a win over Marcus Simpson (no east feat). The big winner for Rockingham was Bruce Edwards who was victorious over Troy Dellar by 16 shots. Rockingham now back in 3rd place lurking behind the top 2.
- Can they take the next step and get into the mix for a top of the table finish come the end of the season - this week against bottom of the table Dalkeith, away from home will tell us a lot. Warnbro back at home against top of the table Kardinya - a huge game for both teams.
- Finally Thornlie will be relieved to record a tight 7-1 win at home over Cockburn. Rob Carruthers was the big winner for Thornlie recording a 18 shot win over Steve Srhoy and his rink. Peter Burgess the only winner for Cockburn by 12 shots over Mark Separovich.
- Cockburn will be pleased to get back to home turf against Forrestfield next Saturday whilst Thornlie will face a difficult trip to Kalamunda.
