The tight games continue to roll in which 4 of the 5 games decided by the following margins 11, 7, 12, 8. These games weekly are literally down the the last ends most weeks as teams continue to steal points off each other.
The predictor machine has started to crunch some numbers so hopefully we’ll have something later in the week but it’s actually really difficult this season so confidence is low but we’ll give it a red hot crack & see what happens. Hold onto your hats for a big Friday announcement
Manning 58 (1) vs Victoria Park Carlisle 69 (7)
(Michael Carey 17 - Gary Beckwith 14) (Paul Smith 13 - Graeme Wishart 16) (Wayne Heldt 16 - Michael Simms 19) (William Fraser 12 - Lee Such 20)
The Reds were out of traps super quick here after a few weeks of questioning their existence in 1 White. I can’t remember the last time the Eagles only scored 58shots at home, even the R1 touch up by the Lions was into the 60’s. Probably not a great sign dropping 2 of 3 home games as they slide down to 8th with a few tough weeks ahead.
The Reds get a huge Agg here & probably got some good matchups which made the difference in the end. It only gets them to 7th but back into the pack & again it’s only 1.5pts between 4th & 9th, just ridiculous margins from near top to bottom.
(Aaron Kriletich 15 - Mark Douthie 23) (Jeremy Thomas 25 - Michael Sweeney 17) (Neville Stevens 24 - Geoffrey Devenish 20) (Pamela Chalmers 17 - Steve Wood 14)
The Saints are starting to strike up the team song as the marching gets into 4th gear & look at them go. Kriletech took his weekly beaten like a man in the end, against a good Douthie side given the other 3 a chance to grab some numbers where they obliged.
Back home next week for North Beach for another home win. Although if they start dropping home games their away form will expose a gap pretty quickly. Not massive scores across the rinks but handy enough to grab a strong 7pts putting the Saints into 3rd with a gap appearing to 4th.
Result: Osborne Park 7 - 1
Prediction: Osborne Park 7 - 1
Gosnells 89 (6) vs Cockburn 77 (2)
(Alex Hodge 29 - Tony Krajancic 15) (Brett Holland 21 - William Tepania 24) (Glenn Lynch 26 - Marc Abonnel 17) (Rue Bishop 13 - Josip (joe) Marevic 21)
Hard to call this one but for the 100th time of backing the Titans away they let me down AGAIN!! I’m trying Cockburn but if I back you again they’ll be medical people with white jackets at my door.
Huge win for the Kookaburras & now 2 back to back albeit at home for both but it gets them 0.5pt off 4th & a Finals spot. This season is pure madness as Gosnells were 1 from 4 after getting mauled by Manning by double scores & sitting 9th & in 2 games are 0.5pt off Finals. Honestly this year I’m at a loss as to where things will finish.
Result: Gosnells 6 - 2
Prediction: Cockburn 6 - 2
Bassendean 66 (2) vs Joondalup 74 (6)
(Joel Hitchcock 12 - Jon Hunter 24) (Jovan Krstic 17 - Barry Crawford 16) (Neil Strachan 15 - James Groves 19) (Stein Davies 22 - Thomas Vlahos 15)
The Dolphins needed a workman like performance & they grinded this one out by a dozen. Although it was really only Hunters dozen that got them over the line. However 6pts get them a breather at the top with a margin growing fortnightly. Joondalup are humming just fine at the moment. They’ll have every chance of getting back to PL & how sweet would it be after the mass exodus.
With 0-6 it’s all but over for Basso after so many great fighting seasons in 1 White. It might seem premature but they’ve 3 of the next 4 away all against top sides so they’ll likely go into R11 on maybe 2 from 10 (best case scenario). Not impossible & most games they were close without any real beat downs but like this game those small margins just didn’t go their way.
(Gary Ford 31 - Mitchell Cranswick 16) (James Bowden 21 - Lisa Featherby 24) (James Newton 16 - Steven Swanson 17) (Karl Vandersluys 29 - Cameron Hoffman 10)
The Lions might have thought 7pts was the target here but getting 6pts was always a default position they were happy to accept. Featherby & Swanson held up their end of the bargain with 2pts but the other 2 results weren’t too pretty with 30 shots in the Agg in the end.
Leeming are sitting nicely in 2nd knowing they haven’t done enough yet to be genuine top contenders but maintaining momentum gives them an easy top 4 going into Xmas & the can build from there on the back 9. Mossies are in dreaded 9th, running a 2 from 6 with 1 of them against Basso, so it’s not looking great for the moment but since the table is so bunched is probably worse than reality unless they start to drop a few more. They’ll need 3 or 4 in a row unbeaten at home to get themselves back into contention.
