(Brian Ledingham 30 - David Anderson 14) (Glenn Yabuka 16 - Martin Nievelstein 19) (Raymond Loran 27 - Pieter Geus 10) (Sean Wright 20 - Kingsley Toster 22)
Warwick with an important home win here against a strong Wanneroo side. Ledingham and Loran with double digit victories ensuring the agg was safe, however Wanneroo didn’t leave empty handed with Nievelstein and Toster picking up a couple of consolation points. My condolences to the Wanneroo boys on the passing of Mike Golding and to the whole Wanneroo Bowling Community.
Cambridge 95 (7) vs North Beach 70 (1)
(Andrew Garlick 22 - Terry Jones 23) (Garry Hawkes 24 - Garry Barr 11) (Neil Bolton 25 - Lee Mitten 21) (Nicholas Lewis 24 - Jeffery Post 15)
7 points and a 25 shot win here for the Knights over the travelling Beach Boys. Garry Hawkes did the heavy lifting with his 13 shot win over Barr and with Lewis getting up by 9 over the Postman and Lord Bolton winning by 4 over Mitten, the majority share of the points stayed at the stable. Terry Jones ensured North Beach didn’t leave empty handed with his 1 shot win over Garlick. This keeps Cambridge in 2nd on the table and they look to be a force this year. They head to the Mounting Yard next week and North Beach host the Maggies.
Yokine 56 (0.5) vs Sorrento 92 (7.5)
(Ian Cooper 12 - Timothy Murray 26) (Martin Sharp 14 - Lance Martin 29) (Shane Shaw 18 - Ronald Rogers 18) (Wayne Coffey 12 - David Dunstan 19)
Well, Yokine proved me wrong again! Sorrento with a dominant 36 shot, 7.5 points win at the Kennel to catapult them up the ladder into 7th position and out of the red for the first time this season. Lance Martin and Tim Murray with a couple of big double digit wins over Sharp and Cooper did the damage and Dunstan chimed in with a solid 7 shot win over the dangerous Coffey rink. Shaw and Rogers couldn’t be separated and the Swans leave the Doggies whimpering in the bottom 3 and with some work to do to get their season back on track. Yokine heads to Wanneroo next week and Sorrento has another away game at the View.
North Perth 82 (7) vs Mount Lawley 66 (1)
(Anthony Kay 24 - John Cottier 13) (Benjamin Horwood 22 - Enda Munnelly 18) (Chris McKenna 18 - Phillip Park 16) (Markus Merz 18 - Laurence Kelly 19)
North Perth flexed their muscles in this one and proved they are definitely the ones to beat this season against a gallant Mount Lawley side. By all reports, the Pioneers flew out the blocks and the agg looked like it was going to be ugly. In the end, it was one rink who did most the damage as Pom Pom Kay won by 11 over the Cottier rink. Horwood kept his undefeated status in tact with his win over Munnelly and The Wizz held on to get over the line with his win over Park (even with a wrong bias). Laurie Kelly won a tight won against Merz and apparently there was some controversy over this one with a bowl falling over during the measuring on the last end, then miraculously standing back up. After an umpire was called, it was the “phone a friend” lifeline that sorted it all out and in the end, Kelly held on to the win and Mounters left with a point. They stay in 4th on the table as the Pioneers remain top and brimming with confidence.
Quinns Rocks 102 (7) vs Doubleview 64 (1)
(Derek Richmond 13 - Cameron Bell 17) (Hugh Ward 25 - James Barry 20) (Shane Smith 38 - Lindsay Thorn 13) (Steve ONeill 26 - David Cosgrove 14)
This one went as expected as Quinns record another dominant home win and Smith scored over 30 again. Who’s going to stop him? He wins again and remains undefeated with his 25 shot win over Prickles. Steve O’Neill jumped Cosi by 12 shots and Hugh Ward got over the line by 5 shots over the Barry rink. Cameron Bell made it 2 wins on the trot after his promotion into the team with his 4 shot win over Richmond. Quinns jump up to third on the table and host North Perth next week and Doubleview remain last and the gap between them and the safe zone is growing.
