Another interesting week in Blue South with all results going mainly as predicted but with some results much closer than expected. It shows just how close the competition is when the bottom 2 sides in Forrestfield and Dalkeith pushed the top 2 sides in Kalamunda and Kardinya all the way but to just fall short. Let’s have a look at this weeks highlights:
- The action began on Friday night with Forrestfield at home to top of the table Kalamunda. This was a thriller with 3 rinks finishing with a 1 shot margin and the other rink finishing with 3 shots. Forrestfield were galant but unfortunately for them Kalamunda escaped with the aggregate and 6 valuable points to remain in top position. The Bill Brandsma rink was pushed all the way by Rhys Tillemans and his crew but they were able to do enough to remain undefeated.
- The other close one was the Kardinya vs Dalkeith clash. Kardinya undefeated at home and again all rinks were close with 2 rinks finishing with one shot margins and another rink by 2 shots. In the end it was Brett Adams by 6 shots over Jesse Brown that allowed a Kardinya win and 6 valuable points. They remain within touching distance of top spot but for Dalkeith so near yet so far.
- In the end Thornlie defeated Warnbro at home to record 7 valuable points but the result was pretty close. In the end it was the Jim Stean rink over Troy Dellar by 11 shots that helped secure the win. The ever reliable Dr G secured an important away point for Warnbro who should be pleased with a much improved effort away from home.
- In the battle of the recently promoted teams it was Willetton on top in the end with a 10 shot victory over Cockburn. Despite a 12 shot win by Steve Srhoy and his rink over Alan Walters, it was a big win by Justin Wright over Paul Brotherson that carried the day. Both teams doing well at this point and sitting in the top 6 and out of any relegation /play-off trouble.
- Finally Rockingham bounced back to top form with a comfortable victory at home. over Rossmoyne. If not for the draw between the Mayor and Marcus Simpson it would have been a clean sweep for Rockingham. Both Bruce Edwards and Lindsay Atkins were able to secure big wins allowing Rockingham to retain 3rd spot. At this point they look like the only real danger to the top 2 sides and the automatic promotion position come season’s end.
