7 days after never seeing 3 x 8-0 for many a moon, can you believe that we get 2 in a row?! If that doesn't sum up this year, I'm at a loss whatever will. Incredible to have 3 duck eggs again & this time after 2 back to back it has made a real impact on the ladder. Incredibly the 2 sides who dropped 0-8 last week were the ones to get 8-0 this week. The ladder has tightened up again & is like a coil ready to pop. 9th to 1st is 11pts, yes you read that correctly 9th to 1st, unbelievable.
Cockburn 101 (8) vs Victoria Park Carlisle 59 (0)
(Jim Ricci 21 - Gary Beckwith 14) (Josip (joe) Marevic 31 - Lee Such 15) (Tony Krajancic 20 - Michael Simms 17) (William Tepania 29 - Graeme Wishart 13)
Kicking off the 1st big 8 was the home track bullies as they made mincemeat of the Reds by nearly double figures & with that surprisingly jump to top spot. Heading into R4 they were probably 8th or 9th & since then they have rocketed up the ladder & still dropped 1 game in the process. Ricci got Beckwith by 7 shots, Krajancic edged Simmo by 3, Little Joe took good care of Suchy by 16 shots & not to be outdone Big Willie dropped 16 on Wishart rink which is easily the Reds best rink so far.
The Reds drop to mid-table & the Titans did well on their back to back purple run but that's 2 home games in a row so it'll get harder from here to stay on top especially with a trip to North Beach next round.
Result: Cockburn 8 - 0
Prediction: Cockburn 7 - 1
Gosnells 97 (8) vs North Beach 56 (0)
(Brett Holland 18 - Steve Wood 16) (Daniel Newton 38 - Michael Sweeney 7) (Glenn Lynch 18 - Geoffrey Devenish 16) (Rue Bishop 23 - Mark Douthie 17)
Could be a real double pointer here for both sides but a massive result for the Kookaburra's as they also literally fly up the ladder into a dreamy 5th spot only a few points off Finals. They made up for dropping 0-8 last round to grab 8-0 here. Newton touch up Sweeney in a bad way with Sweeney not getting close to double figures ending up on 7 shots with Newton raking up 38, Bishop took Douthie by 6, Lynch edged Devenish in a close encounter & Holland had similar against Wood winning by 2 but the damage was done on the blowout rink.
North Beach really have to at least look to 1-2pts on the road as 1-2 home losses will having them in a panic.
Result: Gosnells 8 - 0
Prediction: Gosnells 6 - 2
Bassendean 94 (8) vs Leeming 57 (0)
(Butch Dinnison 20 - James Bowden 13) (Jovan Krstic 25 - James Newton 14) (Neil Strachan 26 - Karl Vandersluys 19) (Stein Davies 23 - Gary Ford 11)
Leeming are involved in another pants down performance in back to back weeks only that in R8 it was their breeches that dropped to the floor in stunning fashion. After riding the wave of the week before they came to Basso with their farts smelling of lavender & roses. Blinded by the heroics of the week before the home side pounced early & never looked back. This one was over early & the fight for who's the real Lion in town came to an incredible conclusion where no Leeming rink were even close on the last few ends, it was a total dominant performance by the real Lions in town.
Strachen took Vandersluys by 7, Davies knocked Ford by more than double scores, Krstic took care of Newton by double scores & the closest game of the day was Dinnison pushing past Bowden by 7 shots.
Leeming drop their 2nd game of the season & now drop to 2nd as the rest bunch right up behind. If Basso were to win their 1st game of the season in style then this is exactly how you do it.
(Jeremy Thomas 19 - Shane Ernest Rixom 22) (Mark Rollings 16 - Roy Humfrey 23) (Neville Stevens 26 - Jon Hunter 16) (Pamela Chalmers 21 - James Groves 17)
Figured this one would be very close & it went all the way to the wire with the Saints just getting up in a thriller. That's 2pts from the last 16pts available for the Dolphins as their season hits the breaks. They'll need a few good wins to open that sort of margin up again & more than likely will not get a chance to open up a margin with the way the results are going lately.
Humfrey grabbed a good away point for the Dolphins against Rollings, Stevens shot back with 8 over Hunter, Rixom continued the great form with 3 shots over Thomas is a super game with big bowls & Chalmers continued the superb form with 4 over Groves.
The Saints are only 5pts off top now after only winning 3 of the last 6 so they'll be looking to consolidate that position over the coming weeks. Joondalup will be licking the wounds again this week & now drop to 3rd with no easy pathway back to the top although they have a chance next Round with Manning to get back on the horse.
(Michael Carey 12 - Mitchell Cranswick 18) (Paul Smith 24 - Steven Swanson 18) (Wayne Heldt 18 - Lisa Featherby 19) (William Fraser 23 - Cameron Hoffman 11)
Another razor tight game with Mossies oh so close to stealing this one. The Eagles were screaming for another solid home win & they got it but not without a good fight. Fraser's side was probably the difference with 12 shots over The Hoff, Carey couldn't hold Cranswick as Mossies grabbed 1pt, Featherby popped up with a narrow margin again Heldt & the agg was close but Swanson couldn't get past a solid Smith side at home to really trouble them late.
The Agg gets Eagles to 8th which isn't a huge change from the last few weeks but it does bring them right back into the conversation for safety as that's now only 3pts away. It was great to break that 3 game losing streak but Manning will need plenty more of this over the coming rounds to stay in touch. Mossies are probably in a similar conversation as they're only 1pt ahead of Manning so every point will be critical this season. I don't have Mossies going on a purple patch at all this season so they'll need to grind weekly to stay relevant.
