(Daniel Brown 20 - Steve Kelly 20) (Eddie Gollan 19 - Tony Percival 10) (Kevin McKay 23 - John Carter 14) (Stewart Gosstray 28 - Neale Griffin 10)
Very comfortable win at home for Armadale against South Perth and they retain a comfortable 6 point buffer in top spot over their only real challenger, Kardinya. Stewart Gosstray returned to his familiar Skipper’s role on the weekend after several visits to the local chemist for strong pain relief to help him manage some broken ribs. I am a little bit surprised that opposing skipper Neale Griffin didn’t give him a little elbow in the ribs just before the start of play to really test those ribs out. In the end it was Gosstray comfortably over Griffin by 18 shots. Wins to Gollan and Mckay and a draw between Brown and Kelly was enough for 7.5 points to Armadale. A tricky fixture next week for Armadale on the road at Willetton whilst South Perth will be keen to bounce back at home against Gosnells.
Cockburn 61 (1) vs Kardinya 97 (7)
(Denis Bandy 16 - Darryl Flintoff 24) (John Wray 18 - Aaron Gale 15) (Mark (Sydney) Game 9 - John Rochford 34) (Paul Brotherston 18 - Garry Knight 24)
Kardinya did what they needed to do in defeating Cockburn away from home on the weekend. Wins to Flintoff, Knight and Rochford made sure that Kardinya walked away with 7 points to keep them in touch with top of the table, Armadale. For Cockburn it was left to the John Wray rink to secure their only point when defeating Aaron Gale. Kardinya return home next week for another important fixture against Rockingham whilst Cockburn are on the road to Dalkeith Nedlands. For Cockburn it is desperation stakes time and can the Cockburn selectors weave some magic at the selection table this week to give their side a chance.
Gosnells 72 (3) vs Dalkeith Nedlands 79 (5)
(Eoghan Gahan 21 - Michael Yates 18) (Kelvin Pearce 22 - Darren Redeckis 12) (Mark Beauchamp 19 - Jesse Brown 16) (Michael Rickard 10 - Martin Saunders 33)
Well Gosnells did just about everything on the weekend with 3 rink wins to Gahan, Pearce and Beauchamp but unfortunately for them they came up just short of a win against Dalkeith on Saturday. For Dalkeith the rink of Martin Saunders came up trumps with a 23 shot victory over Michael Rickard and that was enough to secure the aggregate for Dalkeith and 5 valuable points on the road. Dalkeith with 3 wins from 4 matches since the start of the second half of the season seem to be on the improve and they have another winnable fixture next Saturday at home vs Cockburn. Gosnells back on the road and off to South Perth in what is probably their final roll of the dice.
Rockingham 74 (2) vs Rossmoyne 81 (6)
(Bradley Cole 20 - Craig Edson 15) (Lindsay Atkins 13 - David Horniman 24) (Mark Devenny 23 - Anthony Churcher 18) (Zac Boddy 18 - Rawley Lang 24)
I think I wrote Rossmoyne’s obituary at the end of round 5 when they were sitting stone motherless at the foot of the table without any wins and just 3 points. Yes in the first 5 matches they had just 3 rink wins. Since that point they have won 7 out of 8 matches to get themselves into 4th place on the ladder and a real chance to go top 3 and promotion next season. There is no doubt that at the end of round 5 the knives would have been out for head honcho at Rossmoyne, Mayor Rawley Lang. Although he may have been locking his office door at the club during this period and switching his phone off the Mayor is a leader of men and somehow he has turned this ship around to the point where One White beckons next season. Next week the Rossmoyne boys head home for a fixture against Safety Bay and another opportunity to continue this incredible run whilst Rockingham will really need to lift for a tough fixture against Kardinya away.
Safety Bay 69 (0.5) vs Willetton 91 (7.5)
(Raymond Clark 14 - Alan Walters 23) (Raymond Kennedy 18 - Gavin Dodge 29) (Ron Hall 16 - Justin Wright 16) (Steven Adams 21 - Cameron Girvan 23)
Well this result was somewhat of a surprise with Willetton comfortably against Safety Bay on the road over the weekend. Wins to Walters, Dodge and Girvan and a draw between Wright and Hall allowed Willetton to secure 7.5 points. Safety Bay normally very reliable at home but it was not to be this week and they will need to re group for next week’s fixture. Willetton now back with a real chance of getting out of relegation territory and this week’s match is a huge one for them when they are back at home against ladder leaders Armadale. A win in this one would really given them a great opportunity of getting to safety. For Safety Bay they take on the form team of the competition, Rossmoyne in what looks a trick away match next Saturday.
