(Hugh Ward 22 - Pieter Geus 23) (Shane Smith 23 - David Anderson 15) (Steve ONeill 25 - David Triffitt 12) (Warrick Ferris 16 - Kingsley Toster 26)
Quinns chalked up another home win to finish the round in second spot on the ladder. Shane Smith continued on his merry way with another victory, this time over Anderson, keeping his unbeaten start to the year intact. O’Neil picked up the other home point with his win over Triffit.
Kingsley Toster recorded a double-digit win over Ferris, and Geus remains unbeaten after a one-shot nail-biter against Hugh Ward.
Wanneroo remain in the midfield with two handy away points. Both teams will still be eyeing finals spots this year.
Sorrento 82 (4) vs Yanchep 82 (4)
(David Dunstan 24 - Callum Arnold 15) (Lance Martin 31 - Chris Street 18) (Richard Bone 12 - Patrick Daley 24) (Timothy Murray 15 - Daniel Hartzer 25)
Well, I wasn’t far off on this one. In a game of big margins, the aggregate swung with the Sorrento crosswinds before finally settling level, resulting in a draw.
Dunstan stays unbeaten with his 9-shot win over Arnold, which incredibly was the smallest win of the day. Lance Martin claimed the other home point with a 13-shot victory over Street.
For the visitors, Daley beat Bone by 12 and Hartzer led his rink to a 10-shot win over Murray.
Yanchep will be pleased with four away points at this venue, and after a strong double-header the week prior, they now sit in 4th with plenty of optimism for the season ahead.
Mount Lawley 89 (7) vs Warwick 71 (1)
(Andrew Jones 28 - Geoffrey Hinge 7) (Enda Munnelly 24 - Ivan Sparrowhawk 21) (Laurence Kelly 14 - Glenn Yabuka 26) (Michael Erceg 23 - Sean Wright 17)
Mount Lawley needed to reassert themselves after last week’s slip, welcoming a Warwick side who arrived with their chests out after going unbeaten through the first three rounds.
State prospect AJ apparently put his dancing shoes on halfway through the day as he had to rush to a wedding (cough Molly’s) straight after the match, and it was his mate Goold Old Billy Kimber who stepped in and led like a champion.
They say the quietest man in the room is often the deadliest, and that proved true with a 21-shot win over Hingey. The Irish Stallion got the job done over Sparrowhawk, and the Croatian Stud got up by 6 over Wright.
Warwick’s solitary point came from Ben Legget’s Mum’s cousin (or Yabbie), who beat Legs Kelly, stepping in as skipper this week.
Mounters go top. Who’s knocking them off?
Morley 90 (7) vs Ellenbrook 62 (1)
(Andrew Elmer 17 - Michael L Ryan 20) (Christopher Bell 28 - Michael Lovett 12) (Les Spinks 25 - Aaron Cole 14) (Phillip Leyland 20 - Robert Ball 16)
The battle of the promoted sides ended up being a one-sided affair and unfortunately damaged my tipping score.
Ryan picked up the only point for the visitors with his win over “Shirts” Elmer, but it went downhill from there. Bell chimed in with a 16-shot win over Michael (who did not “love it”), Spinks added another double-figure margin over Cole, and Leyland rounded out the day with his 4-shot win over Robbie Ball.
A solid result that gets the Mavericks moving.
Bassendean 98 (8) vs Cambridge 53 (0)
(Butch Dinnison 20 - Geoffrey Jones 14) (Grant Stokes 33 - Peter Easom 7) (John Holman 23 - Neil Bolton 20) (Neil Strachan 22 - Garry Hawkes 12)
Finally, the Lions roared, welcoming a dishevelled Cambridge side to the Den.
Grant was stoked with his 26-shot dismantling of Easom, while Strachen picked up another big win over Hawkes. Butch and Holman claimed the remaining points, sending Cambridge home with a donut.
Four rounds in and the Knights are still winless, with some early signs of trouble.
