Round 1 of One Blue kicked off with some dominant performances and a few early surprises. The promoted sides got a quick reminder of the step-up, while the big dogs wasted no time marking their territory.
Extra Note: if anyone has stories or more specific information on games, especially the close one like the last game above, please feel free to send it into Simon. Otherwise I’ll just let my imagination run wild.
Bassendean 55 (0) vs Mount Lawley 105 (8)
(Butch Dinnison 16 - Andrew Jones 27)
(Grant Stokes 15 - John Cottier 27)
(John Holman 9 - Enda Munnelly 26)
(Neil Strachan 15 - Michael Erceg 25)
Mount Lawley started the season in emphatic fashion, dismantling Bassendean by a massive 50 shots to announce themselves as early premiership favourites. All four rinks were convincing winners. Dulcet Tones Jones put his hand up for a recall to the state team with a come from behind 11 shot win, Cottier was stoked to get a 12 shot win over…Stokes, No Irish luck needed for Munnelly who danced to a 17 shot win over Holman and Michael Erceg was dominant in his 10 shot win over Strachan.
Bassendean simply couldn’t get going, with the visitors dominating from the first few ends and never looking back. A big statement from the Mounters, who showed they mean business in 2025.

Wanneroo 95 (7) vs Yanchep 60 (1)
(David Anderson 21 - Patrick Daley 11)
(David Triffitt 27 - Callum Arnold 16)
(Kingsley Toster 20 - Daniel Hartzer 21)
(Pieter Geus 27 - Chris Street 12)
Well, I got this one wrong and heavily underestimated the Roos side. Wanneroo’s home-ground advantage struck again as they cruised past newcomers Yanchep by 35 shots. The Roos looked sharp, winning three of the four rinks comfortably. David Triffitt’s side led the way with an 11 shot win over Arnold, backed by Pieter Geus who was dominant in his 15 shot win over Street. David Anderson was best pleased with a 10 shot win over Dalet and Yanchep’s sole bright spot came from Daniel Hartzer who pinched a tight win over a Toster rink who was dominant last season. A wake-up call for Yanchep about the jump in class, but plenty of time to adjust.

Morley 68 (1) vs Quinns Rocks 86 (7)
(Christopher Bell 18 - Shane Smith 19)
(Les Spinks 21 - Steve ONeill 15)
(Phillip Leyland 18 - Warrick Ferris 20)
(Victor Orchard 11 - Hugh Ward 32)
Quinns Rocks picked up right where they left off, getting their promotion push off to a winning start with a solid away victory at Morley.
Hugh Ward’s rink was the standout with a 21 shot win over Orchard, while new skip Warrick Ferris also started his One Blue career with a win. Steve O’Neill copped the brunt of the ferrit going down by 6 and the standout Smith rink from last year won by a single hot over Bell. Quinns were far too consistent across the board and although it looked like Morley were competitive for much of the day, they couldn’t find enough winning ends to stay in touch.

Ellenbrook 55 (0) vs Sorrento 95 (8)
(Aaron Cole 10 - David Dunstan 17)
(Michael L Ryan 12 - Lance Martin 23)
(Michael Lovett 15 - Richard Bone 33)
(Robert Ball 18 - Ian Linford 22)
Ellenbrook’s return to Blue was less “welcome party” and more “reality check”, as Sorrento made light work of them, cruising to a 40-shot away win.
Richard Bone’s rink led the charge with an 18 shot win over Lovett, In the battle of the two first names, it was Martin who prevailed by 11. Ian Linford beat the evergreen Robbie Ball by 4 and to complete the sweep, Dunstan checked out with a 17 shot win over Cole. Sorrento look sharp early and will be one to watch again this season. Early days, but warning signs for Ellenbrook who will be concerned with a donut on their home turf.

Warwick 81 (6) vs Cambridge 80 (2)
(Geoffrey Hinge 14 - Neil Bolton 27)
(Ivan Sparrowhawk 19 - Stuart Lofthouse 21)
(Raymond Loran 18 - Peter Easom 17)
(Sean Wright 30 - Garry Hawkes 15)
Easily the match of the round, Warwick edged Cambridge by a single shot in a thriller. Loran edged out Easom by one in a close one whilst Lofthouse got over the line by 2 over Sparrowhawk. Then it was the battle of the blowout rinks. Geoffrey looked to be a bit unhinged going down by 13 to Lord Bolton, but I’m sure he would have treated his mate Wrighty to a few pints who saved the bacon with his win over Hawked by 15 to secure the aggregate by a solitary point. Warwick continue to make their home green a fortress and start the season on the right note.
