RESULTS

6th October 24 - Ok feeling refreshed and ready to go. Good day of state fours yesterday and we are down to the knockout stages today at Kardinya. The section 10 battle between Kristina Krstic and Lisa Featherby didn't eventuate as the Featherby rink forfeited that match, gifting Krstic the rink. The remaining sections seemed to go as planned so the Ladies draw is in for some good games today.
In the mens, again it appears the favoured teams have mostly progressed. Section 6 produced a 0% win with Dwayne Hayden winning all 3 games to get through the section. The battle between Daniel Trewhella and Clive Adams was tight and it was Trewhella that triumphed by 3 shots. Section was decided by 1 shot, Darren Rowland and Kristian Carr both with 2 wins and a % of 133 but Rowland with +12 over Carr's +11 saw them progress. Last years year Shane Giudice-Nairn dropped a game but progress, as does last years runners up Matthew Mitchell. Another fine day weather wise for those wanting to watch some good fours bowls today at Kardinya.

5th October 24 - The results from todays state fours, I'll do my review in the morning coz I'm stuffed

FIXTURES

4th October 24 - The pennant fixtures have been released for season 2024/25, and now the mad scramble begins for clubs wanting to swap games. Click Here to view.

TIPPING

3rd October 24 - It's not too late to enter the fours, at this stage we see the Daniel Trewhella and Kristina Krstic rinks start as favourites. Interestingly Krstic and Lisa Featherby who is the only other team tipped to win play each other in the section. Seems like winner of that game wins the title! Of course they won't be thinking that as plenty of good teams in the event, but interesting it has been tipped that way.

27th September 24 - ...and with every state event, we have a tipping comp! Same rules as always, no prizes this year unless a business is interested in a donation. The winner will be the person who tips the most correct skippers as listed by game start time. If there is a tie it will be separated by who you think will win the fours, both male and female and the highest of those tips will win. Should there still be a tie then a hat draw will take place.
In the interest of accuracy, if you know of changes to the teams listed, please advise updates so I can let people know. Especially those TBA!!!

AUSTRALIAN OPEN

Day 14 - It's all over for another year and what a way to finish, Kristina Krstic and her good friend Ellen Fife taking out the womens pairs and the gold medal. We had Western Australians playing on every day of the event, 2 gold medals and a silver, and a few other semi finalists and quarter finalists. The most we've ever had attend the event this year for a superb return. Well done to all competing and successes we had. Day 13 - What a day for Laura Butler, WA and Switzerland as she wins the Australian open singles crown. We are all proud of her achievements, as we are when any WA bowler wins a big title like this. And what a cracking game against Kelsey Cottrell, both at 19 all and with 2 clutch bowls Butler was able to hang on and win. She has had a fair tournament sending the organisers in a tail spin juggling the times - semi finals in the pairs and quarter finals in the fours.
In another WA achievement but not as lofty was the silver medal won by Calvin Rodgers in the vision impaired singles. Got awfully close to lose 19-21. In other games Peter Cole went down in Round 4 and Lisa Featherby/Linda Warburton fell in the semi final in the Over 60's Pairs. We still have a couple of games to go including Kristina Krstic in the Womens Pairs final tomorrow.
Day 11 - A late finish today to squeeze in the Ladies Pairs and it's been a super day for them with 3 pairs making the quarter finals, Kristina Krstic with Ellen Fife, Hailey Packer and Deb Saunders and finally Laura Butler with her parter Olivia Cartwright still in the hunt tomorrow at 9am. Another super performance for our WA bowlers is Calvin Rodgers who will play in the gold medal match on Thursday for the vision impaired. Sadly though Cody Packer bowed out in the semi finals after his giant killing run came to end. The mens and womens Over 60's were completed today, our star ladies duo of Lisa Featherby and Linda Warburton were the only ladies to progress and for the men we had Peter Cole, Jeff Watson/Glenn Lynch, Andy McFarlane/Alan Spence and Mark Burgess/Brad Spiers.
Day 10 - Another jam packed day for 90 WA bowlers as we get to the pointy end of the Mens Pairs, Womens Fours, Multi Disability and Vision Impaired pairs. Cody Packer and Laura Butler flying the flag for us they remain alive in all of their disciplines, Cody with partner Cohen Litfin making the quarter finals and Laura with her Fours team also in quarters playing Kristina Krstic and her team, so we are guaranteed a semi finalist there. Jodie Nikolic finished 2nd in the sectional but it was enough to see her progress to the knockout stage. As the AO winds down there is still plenty of action in the coming days.
Day 9 - Our singles players are still going after a superb day for our WA players. Cody Packer and Laura Butler un-troubled, Cody into the quarter finals and the mountain doesn't get much bigger than Aron Sherriff and Laura reaches the semi-finals again, hopefully can get 2 more wins to secure the title.
Multi disability singles kicked off today and not so good for our Yanchep player Jodie Nikolic going down in both games but better for Calvin Rodgers in the vision impaired singles with 3 games of 21-6 to reach the semi finals. Serge Ansquer not as successful losing all 3.
Day 8 - We are down to 3 left in the blue ribbon event, the singles. Laura Butler is holding the fort like she did last year with 3 solid wins today and takes on Australian champion player Lynsey Clarke. Down at the pointy end it is never easy. For the men we have 2 left, Cody Packer plays Phillip Gray and David Goddard who I don't know much about but he takes on a local legend in Scotty De Jongh.
Day 7 - It was Fours day as the Womens Fours sectional play was completed and Mens fours knockout was played to the Round of 16. We had the ludicrous situation in the Ladies where teams that finished 3rd were progressing. Surely the Australian Open is big enough now was that we can have an alignment game rather than lucky losers. Anyway, well done to our West Aussie ladies progressing - Porteous/Clements/Leach/Newton, Reagan/Masters/Saunders/Saunders, Leggett/Casson/Gullotti/Wilke, Watson/Jolliffe/Crabb/Lynch, Brannan/Warburton/Featherby, Krstic, Arnold/Bell/Coxon/Pearson, Butler, Nikolic/Carson/Arnold/Ferguson.
Mens knockouts also today had 3 rounds and we still have some players alive. Cody Packer was in the licorice all sorts team that caused the upset of the tournament beating last years winners. Also still alive is the team of C Alberti/Sear/Gillingham/T Alberti.
Day 6 - The Mens Fours kicked off today and the completion of the Ladies Singles. I think with 31 lucky losers our guys will need +12 to get through which should see some extra teams progress, but the 1st placed qualifiers today were Nelson/Burley/Godden/Smith, Holt/Holt/Davidson/Sharp, Harris/East/Downey/Adams, Wighton, Wright/Dodge/Thompson/Carruthers, Nairn, Packer. The Ladies finished their singles with Laura Butler and Maggie Newton progressing. 8 lucky losers there so I'm not sure our 2nd placed people will progress, we shall see in an hour or so.
Day 5 - Ladies singles starts today and the conclusion of the mens pairs. 3 qualifiers today for the men - Walker/Pauling, Alberti/Gillingham and Rhett Butler. Knockout draw has been completed with our 25 men left which will be played next Monday. First day of the Ladies singles sees Kristina Krstic, Sharon Lynch, Tusha Jolliffe and Shaan Saunders automatic qualifiers. 8 lucky losers so you will need a good shots up to progress.
Day 4 - Our Mens Pairs kicks off today to be completed tomorrow and also our final 3 sections of WA ladies. It was a successful day there with 2 getting to the knockout stage, Lisa Brannan (with Claire Sanders SA) and Laura Butler (with Olivia Cartwright Vic). Our mens winners with 0 lucky losers (so you need to win the section to progress) were (only WA men mentioned) Sear/C Alberti, Dean, Massang/Marsland, Retallack, Davidson/Holt, Ball/Bates, Godden/Smith, Beurteaux/Mawdsley, Scott/Humfrey, Martin, Packer, Downey/East.
Day 3 - Our Ladies Pairs started today and the final round of the Mens singles. Mens qualifiers were Russell Tyrrell, Chris Carruthers, Matt Allen, John Hobbs, Geoffrey Burgess. Ladies pairs section winners are Deb Saunders/Hailey Packer, Kristina Krstic/(Ellen Fife), Amanda Masters/Shaan Saunders. There are 13 lucky losers so those that finish 2nd still an outside chance.
Day 2 - Our winners today wee Cody Packer, Clive Adams, Russell Bates, Paul Dean, Matthew Ngui, John Davidson, Kimberley Thomson, Thomas Vlahos.
Day 1 - No lucky losers with the mens so only winners of each section qualify and we had 10 qualifiers - Warren Holt, Jon Sharp, Craig Hitchcock, Jack East, Phillip Coxon, Blake Nairn, Neale Griffin, Cameron Harris, Dale Marsland and David Goddard.

EDITORIAL

27th May 24 - Thanks to those that have responded, some good feedback as well. Like stated, it wasn't designed to actually change pennants but more around what can we do to make it the best comp to play in.

26th May 24 - I've started a new series, I'm going to jot down my thoughts on bowls related issues during the course of the Winter, I'm calling my editorials. They will cover various issues, prizemoney for state events, bowls laws but today I have looked at our pennant competition and it's structure.

VALE

24th May 24 - A long time morley member has passed away. Also want to thank the Morley person who sends me information about his club. The Vale especially was not intended for only bowlers everyone would know, but for those who are club stalwarts who have bowled at the same club for years. Bowlers who past members might have played with in their bowls journey and opposition players. It's always sad to hear of bowlers passing away and nice to recognise their contribution to the club they bowl at.

BPL

19th May 24 - Don't forget the BPL qualifyings are on at the moment, 3 completed and 12 to go. It's not too late to enter your club either. WA have a rich tradition in the BPL cup so get on board.

CALENDAR

19th May 24 - from tournament organiser Mark Thomas -

NEWS

18th May 24 - The upcoming Metropolitan Forum has some very interesting agenda items that will be discussed. LETTER

18th April 24 - And a response

14th April 24 - Another comment

9th April 24 - Received a good letter about the upcoming changes to our pennant structures, namely around Open Gender Saturday pennants> In case you missed it, Bowls WA did release a discussion paper about it, Click Here to read that presentation. Remember, the discussion paper is not about whether it should come in or not, the changes are being made and this is more about information about why, the history and such. Bowls WA are encouraging clubs, not individuals, to make a submission to the league about questions they may have about it, and those questions will then be addressed in one go.
I, on the other hand, welcome letters from individuals about it, but I will only publish letters that are well reasoned thoughts and not intent on name calling or denegrating of individuals alone.

DRAWS

16th April 24 - I really should check the Bowls WA website more often, the draw for the champ of champs has been released.

NEWS

14th April 24 - There are 2 big events coming up, the Internations and the PBA. First up in the Internations, held again at Cockburn. A magnificent event where bowlers from WA represent 8 countries over 2 days of bowls playing for nothing but to raise money for charity. It's a fantastic initiative which has raised over 150k over 40 years and a special one this year after the passing of founding father Doug Arrowsmith. If you arent playing and would like to watch some good, buy some raffles or just contribute some funds, head to Cock on the 4th and 5th May. Then there is the PBA run by Dave Rankin. I reckon it would be the biggest PBA qualifying event in the world with generally 100 participants and anyone can play. First prize - a trip to England to play against some of the superstars of the sport. And you get 3 opportunities to do it! The Scottish Open, The Worlds and the UK Open. Throw in a pairs event as well and it is one of the biggest prizes in WA bowls. For more details check out the Facebook page by Click Here or email Dave at perthpennants@hotmail.com.

WINTER WEEKLIES

9th April 24 - Sorry for the absence, had some days off and found a heap of Winter Weeklies to post.

TIPPING

8th April 24 - The results are in, we had a 4 way tie with 21 correct tips. So we countback from their selections of the winners. 3 picked Krstic so we lose Louie Beurteaux (who tipped Featherby). The male selections were Marsland, Nairn and Moyle, the team to progress furtherest from that group was Nairn and so our tipping winner is Graeme Alp! Congratulations Graeme, some head wobble over the Winter until the next tipping comp. Commiserations to Barry Crawford and myself. Full tips scores are now posted.

3rd April 24 - And when a state event is released, so is a tipping comp! Again no prizes, just a head wobble to say how good am I to your friends. Usual rules apply, 1 entry person, enter as many times as you like but only the latest entry counts. Tied scores will be separated by your nomination of the winner in both mens and ladies, if it is still tied then a random draw will commence. But as we aren't playing for anything, I may split the prize between all winning entries! Entries close Saturday morning 9am, entries rec'd after this time will be considered null and/or void.

RUMOURS

TIPPING

30th January 24 - The results are in! Amazingly we had no tippers tied so overall winners weren't required to split them. Well done to Joe Krstic who scored the double - winning the tipping and watching his daughter win the title. He got 85 correct, an amazing 3 ahead of his nearest rival Denis on 82. It was a popular winners tipping combination as well, they were our 2 favourites and as a combo well done to Steve Harris, Norm Fathers, Justin Wright, Marcus Weston, Paul Sinden and Mike Turner for the Packer/Krstic winners. All tipsters scores can be found at the link above.

20th January 24 - Great news tipsters, thanks to Aero Bowls, they are providing a $50 voucher to their store for the winner. This is great news, thanks Vanessa, Neville and the team there at Aero Bowls in Balcatta. Even if you have aubmitted a team and want to make changes, it is not too late to submit a new entry which will supersede the old entry.

13th January 24 - Tipping is open, no prizes again this time around in the big daddy of tipping. 129 sections to work your way through. Entries close Sunday 21st January at 9pm. Winner will be decided by most correct tips and if a draw then it will be based upon your selection of the winner. Choose wisely!

RESULTS

29th January 24 - An enthralling contest has seen Cody Packer go back to back after defeating Warren Holt 25-20 yesterday. It looked one way traffic halfway thru the game but Holt mounted a comeback and it was game on but a 3 on the last end saw the victory go Packers way. In the ladies, Kristina Krstic confirmed her status as our best female bowler at the moment with a convincing 25-8 win over Pam Chalmers. Is Krstic our best ever female bowler at such a young age? Her victory makes it 5 singles titles and see her stand alone at the top as most ever, an outstanding achievement. Take nothing away from Chalmers who had her best ever result in the singles but the experienced of her opponent showed out.
Congratulations to both our champions

27th January 24 - We are down to the quarter finals for the men and the semi finals for the ladies as we move to Joondalup tomorrow to play the finals. For the men, 4 previous winners left and all in separate games. Ryan Havercroft will give 2 time champ Blake Nairn a real run for his money, a couple of young up and comers next, last years winner cody Packer takes on Brian Davis from Swan and Warren Holt the countryweek and state singles champ will have to see off Segan Pasalich. The enticing game though in the morning will be 2011 champ Clive Adams taking on Daniel Trewhella, surprisingly never a winner in the State event although a Masters singles winner on about 10 occasional.
For the Ladies, Osborne Park teammates Amanda Masters will play Pam Chalmers and the other semi seems Kristina Krstic aiming for her 5th title will have to overcome Lisa Featherby who is looking for her first.
A super days play in order for tomorrow at Joondalup. Play starts at 9.30am. If you can't get to the game the mens quarter final, then ladies final, then mens final will be live streamed on Streamer, Click Here will take you there.

21st January 24 - Sectional play and some knockout games are done, we've some big names fall but generally our favourites have got through unscathed. All sectional play scores and knockout games can be found here.

LETTERS

1st January 24 - A response to the letter.

30th December 23 - Rec'd an interesting letter about state events and the venues they are played at.

RESULTS - Mens State Pairs

31st December 23 - Congratulations go to Russell Bates and Brad Ball for taking out this years State Pairs over Cody Packer and Clive Adams 22-14. It is the first state title for Bates who has been a runner up in the singles but he has been knocking on the door for a while. Ball has won the Triples in his only other state title.

30th December 23 - And we are down to 4 teams. My selection and heavy favourite would be Cody Packer and Clive Adams, although the other 3 teams are strong combinations and have the potential to win the title. Adams will play his Cambridge teammate Cameron Harris coupled with Connor Biddle. In the other semi another Cambridge player Brad Gillingham teaming with ex-teammate at North Beach Peter Retallack take on Russell Bates and Brad Ball, Ball having ties with Cambridge about 5 years ago. It should be a great day, head on down to Osborne Park to see our champ for this year.

28th December 23 - Our sectional stage is over, some huge upsets and well fancied teams have been knocked out. For me it seems to be Packer/Adams to lose but Pairs has a tendency to throw up some strange results. Look at Section 37, the winner of that game porogressed. Good luck to all teams today in some of the best pairs weather we have seen for years.

TIPPING

30th December 23 - We didn't need to get to the final to decide this years Mens State Pairs tipping winner, well done Cameron Harris on winning the quarter final against Warren Holt thus knocking Jim Stewart out of the race. You can now play without the burden of the tipping on your shoulders. Massive head wobble, sadly no prizes this year.

29th December 23 - We have the results of the tipping and it is a 3 way tie. So to separate it all depends on who they selected. Steve Novak tipped himself who unfortunately did not get out of his section so he is out. The remaining 2 have tipped different teams and they are still alive, Jim Stewart is riding last years winners Holt/Wunnenberg and Cameron Harris now has more to play for as he has selected himself to win. Massive head wobble should Cam take the double of winning the state pairs and importantly, the tipping.
Full scores can be found in the tipping page.

24th December 23 - sorry about the delays, had some technical issues with converting PDF to excel, all sorted now. Only 2.5 sdays to enter, no prizes again on offer but only a head wobble for the winner.

8th November 23 - The technical difficulties I had have been fixed by my database wizard Warwick Neville and we can now release the results for the state fours tipping. Congratulations to Anthony Monson, John Carter and Steve Novak who all got 22 correct. In the old days if we were after 1 winner it would have been Steve Novak who went for Krstic and Trewhella.
