(Alan Walters 18 - Darren Redeckis 24) (Cameron Girvan 18 - Michael Yates 13) (Gavin Dodge 34 - Martin Saunders 4) (Justin Wright 16 - Jesse Brown 21)
Willetton get their season off to a great start with a comfortable win at home over Dalkeith. The big winners for Willetton were the Gavin Dodge rink with a 30 shot victory over Martin Saunders and his rink. The rink of Cameron Girvan also commenced the season well with a 5 shot win over Michael Yates. Dalkeith however did not leave empty handed with good wins from Jesse Brown and Darren Redeckis landing the away side 2 points and a reasonable outcome. Next week Willetton are away at Rockingham in what should be a great clash whilst Dalkeith head home to take on South Perth.
Cockburn 73 (1) vs Rockingham 91 (7)
(Brett Parker 18 - Marcus Simpson 19) (James Wylie 13 - Bradley Cole 32) (Mark (Sydney) Game 25 - Bruce Edwards 18) (Paul Brotherston 17 - Mark Devenny 22)
Great start to season for Rockingham with a 7-1 victory over Cockburn away from home. Strong wins to Mark Devenny, Marcus Simpson and new recruit Brad Cole ensured a winning start to the season and a vital away victory. A win for the Mark Game rink secured a solitary point for Cockburn however they would be disappointed with this result given that they did not lose a game at home last season. Next week Rockingham are at home to Willetton as they aim to build on a great start to the season whilst Cockburn on the road to take on the recently promoted Safety Bay.
South Perth 89 (7) vs Kardinya 73 (1)
(Neale Griffin 26 - John Rochford 18) (Robert Urquhart 14 - Aaron Gale 24) (Steve Kelly 26 - Brett Adams 15) (Wayne Bezant 23 - Hugo Vriezen 16)
I may well have underestimated South Perth in my pre season preview selecting them to finish in the bottom half of the ladder. The team on paper looks good with plenty of experience and they did finish in front of my top of the ladder selection in Armadale last season. Wins to Neale Griffin, Wayne Bezant and Steve Kelly helped to secure 7 valuable points and a great start to the season against Kardinya. The rink of Aaron Gale over Rob Urquhart resulted in a single point for Kardinya. Next week South Perth travel to Dalkeith in what should be an interesting fixture whilst Kardinya play their first home fixture of the season against Armadale in what will certainly be match of the Round.
Armadale steamrolled Rossmoyne in Round 1 with a 44 shot victory and all 8 points in a great start to the season. There are a lot of Mckay’s in this Armadale side and that is bad news for the rest of the competition. State skipper Kevin Mckay showed his class against Anthony Churcher with a solid 18 shot win and then the rink containing both Hugh and Ken Mckay topping that performance with a 21 shot win over Reza Vind. Rossmoyne nearly secured a point but Sturat Gosstray just held on to a 1 shot win over the hard to beat Craig Edson. Armadale travel to Kardinya next week and we will soon see if they are the real deal whilst Rossmoyne are back home to take on the Gosnells outfit.
Gosnells 77 (2) vs Safety Bay 84 (6)
(Brett Holland 21 - Raymond Clark 18) (Eoghan Gahan 16 - Raymond Kennedy 30) (Ian Quayle 15 - Ron Hall 21) (Rue Bishop 25 - David Holt 15)
Well another away win in Round 1 with Safety Bay over Gosnells by 7 shots and 6 valuable points to kick off the season. Wins to Ron Hall and Raymond Kennedy did the heavy lifting for Safety Bay while Brett Holland and Rue Bishop were winners to help the home team secure 2 points. Fantastic start for Safety Bay in their first game up in One Blue and they look to have another winnable game at home against Cockburn next week. Gosnells will be looking to bounce back when the travel to Rossmoyne.
